It briefly presents his discussion of literature and ethics on various occasions and focuses on the notorious passage from the Allegories of Reading, famous for its opacity. It examines a series of its interpretations and finally scrutinizes the most influential among them, proposed by Hillis Miller in The Ethics of Reading. It is demonstrated that all these interpretations miss the point of the passage in question, the main reason for this being non distinguishing between the two levels of ethics in de Man's treatise and consequently mistakenly merging them together. The article proposes a close reading of the passage. It also pays attention to lacunas in de Man's argumentation that additionally complicate the comprehension of the passage. In conclusion, the article states that due to its opacity and idiosyncrasy, de Man's conception of the ethics of tropes remains basically unapplied in the ethical literary criticism</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Članek razpravlja o prispevku Paula de Mana k obravnavi literature z gledišča etike. Članek se sklene z ugotovitvijo, da de Manov sicer dobro poznani zasnutek etike tropov oziroma literarno retorične etike zaradi svoje nejasnosti in idiosinkratičnosti ni doživel vidnejše produktivne aplikacije v etični literarni vedi</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-0BBKULYB"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-0BBKULYB" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-0BBKULYB/f8e14ca6-5c42-474a-aef3-e71951fc863e/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Slovensko društvo za primerjalno književnost</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-0BBKULYB/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-0BBKULYB" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
