The authors also attempt to determine how the goals of such directives are transposed into Slovenian laws.The process of assessing forest management plans is described. The authors suggest how forest management plans could be upgraded to become part of plans for the management of Natura 2000 Sites. They state that the upgrading of plans would be efficient and rational for forest areas, since forests account for 70 % of the Natura 2000 sites. The project "Life III Nature", administrated by the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for NatureConservation, whose partner is the Slovenian Forest Service, is seeking relevant solutions. Undoubtedly, forestry will need to show a fair amount of courage and there will need to be an opening up to other knowledge, skills andstakeholders in the forestČlanek povzema ključne direktive Evropske unije, ki so pomembne za gozdnogospodarsko načrtovanje. Ugotavlja tudi, kako so cilji direktive transponirani v slovenski pravni red. Opisan je postopek presoje gozdnogospodarskih načrtov. Nakazana je možnost nadgradnje gozdnogospodarskih načrtov v načrte upravljanja Natura 2000 območij. Avtorja ugotavljata, da bi bila nadgradnja načrtov smotrna in racionalna v območju gozdov, saj gozdovi pokrivajo 70% Natura 2000 območij. Projekt Life III Narava, ki ga vodi Zavod Republike Slovenije za varstvo narave, Zavod za gozdove pa je partner, išče rešitve v tej smeri.
