Jubilejno gledališče cesarja Franca Jožefa. Šele leta 1919 so Nemci stavbo prepustili Slovenskemu gledališkemu konzorciju. Prva predstava v slovenščini je bila drama Tugomer Josipa Jurčiča in Frana Levstika. Stavba je od takrat služila izključno uprizarjanju dramskogledaliških predstav v slovenskem jeziku.
