Intenzivnejše gospodarjenje z gozdom mora biti usklajeno tudi z ekološko in socialno komponento, da gospodarjenje z gozdom lahko označimo za trajnostno, kar dolgoročno pomeni najgospodarnejši pristop. S tem ne zagotavljamo le dohodka lastnikom gozdov, ampak tudi delovanje ekosistemskih storitev.
