The study was carried out based on material from the Middle Russian corpus of the Russian National Corpus (RNC). It enabled me to discover the functional differences between future periphrases, something that cannot be done using traditional philological methods. I argue that none of the Middle Russian constructions in question (from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century) can be regarded as an analytical imperfective future.
