Three steps are necessary for an effective crack length determination from the measured compliance: (a) numerical determination (by FEM) of the compliance versus crack length function; (b) finding the inverse function; (c) comparison of the numerically determinec crack length with the measured crack length (by some other method) and calibration of both. The paper presents the comparison of the measured crack length with the crack length determined by the mentioned procedure for some specimens of fracture mechanicsPri lomnomehanskih preizkusih je treba meriti dolžino razpoke v preizkušancu v realnem času, med potekom preizkusa. Za učinkovito meritev dolžine razpoke iz podajnosti preizkušanca je treba narediti tri korake: (a) računsko po metodi končnih elementov, določiti funkcijo podajnosti v odvisnosti od dolžine razpoke; (b) s primernim algoritmom določiti navedeni funkciji inverzno funkcijo; (c) primerjati numerično določeno dolžino razpoke z izmerjeno in kalibrirati numeričnoi postopek in preizkus za dosego čim večje natančnosti.
