In high class and high price go-karts, the replacement of conventional grey cast-iron brake discs by lighter and frictionally more suitable brake discs based on Al/SiC MMCs is in progress. Besides the development of brake pads for the new disc mateial it was also necessary to develop a production technology for al/SiC brake discs. The characteristics of the new disc material, as well as the selected casting technology required a new design and construction of brake discs. The results of microstructural and mechanical investigations of sand and mould cast, as well as high pressure die cast Al/SiC MMCs discs are presented, together with a comparison with heat treated Al/SiC discs. The frictional properties of the discs were determined and all investigated discs were tested in real conditions of expliotation (on a racetrack). The investigations enabled us to optimise the casting process of the discs and in this way to improve microstructural and mechanical properties of Al/SiC MMCs discs"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Podjetje Sinter iz Ljubljane je eden največjih svetovnih proizvajalcev zavornih ploščic za vozila go-kart. V zahtevnejšem in višjem cenovnem razredu te vrste športnih in dirkalnih vozil poteka zamenjava klasičnega zavornega sistema, ki ima litoželezni disk, z bistveno lažjim in torno ugodnejšim diskom na osnovi kompozita s kovinsko osnovo iz podevtektske Al-zlitineAl9SiMg ojačene z dealci Sic (v nadaljevanju kompoziti Al/SiC). Poleg osvajanja tehnologije izdelave zavornih ploščic za novo vrsto diskov je bilo treba osvojiti tudi tehnologijo izdelave samih diskov, ker le teh ni bilo možno dobiti na tržišču. Razvita je bila nova oblika zavornega diska na osnovi novega materiala in izbrane tehnologije litja. V prispevku so predstavljeni rezultati mikrostrukturnih in mehanskih preiskav gravitacijsko (v pesek in kokilo) ter pod tlakom ulitih diskov Al/SiC. Izdelana je bila tudi primerjava lastnosti s toplotno obdelanimi diski. Pri vseh preiskovanih diskih so bile izmerjene torne karakteristike. Diski so bili preizkušeni tudi v realnih razmerah na dirkališču.
