Consequentially, many slope mass movements endanger people, buildings and infrastructure. Therefore, prevention measures are necessary to reduce the risk of hazards related to slope mass movements. The doctoral theses documents and describes observations of slope mass movements at the Potoška planina (the so-called Potoška planina landslide), which is situated in the West Karavanke mountain ridge, above the settlement of Koroška Bela, which lies on the outskirts of the town of Jesenice. On the basis of the evidence gathered so far, the Potoška planina could present a source area of debris flow triggered by extreme weather conditions. In order to recognize and understand the slope mass movements and their triggering mechanisms, a method of engineering-geological mapping was applied. The main purpose of the engineering-geological mapping was to recognize the types of slope mass movements and sediments that are involved in the processes of slope mass movements. Interpretation of the dynamics of slope mass movements was based on the monitoring of visible surface changes through time. In order to estimate surface movement patterns, periodic monitoring was conducted as a support tool in addition to the engineering-geological mapping at various points on the Potoška planina landslide. Doktorska disertacija se osredotoča na raziskovanje pobočnih masnih premikov na območju Potoške planine (t. i. plaz Potoška planina), ki se nahaja v Zahodnih Karavankah nad vasjo Koroška Bela v bližini Jesenic in za katerega je bilo po do sedaj zbranih podatkih ocenjeno, da lahko ob neugodnih vremenskih razmerah predstavlja potencialno izvorno območje za nastanek drobirskega toka. Pri prepoznavanju in razumevanju pobočnih masnih premikov na območju Potoške planine ter njihovih mehanizmov je bilo uporabljeno inženirskogeološko kartiranje in rezultati sistema za opazovanje. Glavni namen inženirskogeološkega kartiranja je bil prepoznavanje vrst pobočnih masnih premikov na območju Potoške planine in sedimentov, ki so vključeni v procese pobočnega masnega premikanja. Interpretacija dinamike pobočnih masnih premikov na Potoški planini pa je temeljila na opazovanju sprememb v času in prostoru, zato so se kot podporo inženirskogeološkim metodam periodično izvajale geodetske meritve na različnih delih plazu Potoška planina.
