Although astrocytes represent 50 of cells in the central nervous system they were recognized as passive, supportive cells regulating homeostasis and creating the microenvironment suitable for neuronal cells to function. Butlately, it was proven that astrocytes possess a unique feature - they are capable of changing their morphology and function throughout life in response to changes in brain microenvironment. Conclusions. They have important functions during development, adulthood and after the brain injury, when they actively participate in the regeneration process or form a scar after excessive neuron loss. Recently discovered functions of astrocytes are: equal partnership in tripartite synapse and active regulation of generation and maintenance of synapses in central nervous system</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Izhodišča: Kjub temu da astrociti predstavljajo 50% celic v osrednjem živčevju, so jim dalgo časa pripisovali le pasivno podporno funkcijo, ki poskrbi za homeostazo in vydrževanje primernega mikrookolja za delovanje nevronov. Nedavno odkriti funkciji astrocitov sta, da so astrociti enakopraven član tridelne sinapse in da regulirajo tvorbo in vzdrževanje sinaps</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:DOC-TYBIUSQT"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:DOC-TYBIUSQT" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-TYBIUSQT/c786955e-3033-4bbb-986c-d89e0c4363e0/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Slovensko zdravniško društvo</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-TYBIUSQT/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-TYBIUSQT" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
