On the other hand, copper has poor mechanical properties, which must be improved by adding reinforcement elements. Graphite is often used for reinforcement elements, but it reacts very fast with oxygen in the air and in the atmosphere with a low partial pressure of oxygen. Gas products are formed in the reaction of graphite with oxygen, and consequently high pressures inside the composite occur. The material can be damaged at the micron level and can lose its good mechanical properties. The aim of this work was to verify the high temperature oxidation of graphite in a Cu matrix with the objective of defining the mechanism and the influence on the composite microstructure"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Baker je odličen toplotni in električni prevodnik ter ne reagira tako intenzivno s kisikom kot večina drugih kovin, zato je razmišljanje o njegovi uporabi pri visokih temperaturah dokaj smiselno. Ker pa ima slabe mehanske lastnosti, mu jih je potrebno izboljšati, kar lahko dosežemo z dodatkom utrjevalnih faz. Kot utrjevalna faza se pogosto uporablja grafit, za katerega je značilno, da intenzivno reagira s kisikom tako v zračni atmosferi, kakor tudi v atmosferah z bistveno nižjim parcialnim tlakom kisika. Ker nastajajo pri takšni reakciji grafita s kisikom plinski produkti, delujejo posledično v notranjosti kompozita visoki tlaki, zaradi katerih se lahko material v mikrometerskem smislu poškoduje in izgubi dobre mehanske lastnosti.
