Few different practices have been developed internationally to reduce these barriers, one of them being intercultural mediation. In Slovenia, there have been some initiatives of implementing it in healthcare, the biggest one being The upgrade and development of preventive care programmes and their implementation in primary healthcare and local communities project, with acronym Health Promotion for All. The research is based on quantitative data which were provided by intercultural mediators themselves as an extension of their monthly reports for Community Health Centres where they worked. The research findings were contextualised and explained by ethnographic fieldnotes, which were produced through monthly training of intercultural mediators and in other occasions. In 2019, intercultural mediation was implemented in 11 Community Health Centres (with altogether 12 intercultural mediators). 1,033 interventions were registered, the vast majority in Slovene-Albanian language combination. Throughout the year, constant increase of the number of interventions was detected. Intercultural mediation was used the most in paediatric, gynaecological, community nursing and family medicine health interventions. Importantly, intercultural mediators carried out relatively high number of interventions, which we can code as "support" (interpreting via phone call and helping patients with making appointments) with which they were widening the access to health services for foreign-speaking patients. Most of interventions lasted 30 minutes and that was also the extension of the average time in providing support before or after health interventions. The article provides the first statistical data on intercultural mediation in healthcare in Slovenia and therefore gives the basis for a possible future systemic implementation</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">V dostopu tujejezičnih pacientov do zdravstvene oskrbe prihaja do jezikovnih in kulturnih ovir, s katerimi se soočajo tujejezični pacienti in zdravstveni delavci. V letu 2019 so medkulturne mediatorke opravile 1033 intervencij (veliko večino v jezikovni kombinaciji slovenščina-albanščina). Medkulturne mediatorke so bile najpogosteje vključene v pediatrične in ginekološke obravnave, obravnave patronažnega varstva in družinske medicine. Članek ponuja prve statistične podatke na tem področju in s tem daje izhodišče za sistemsko vpeljevanje medkulturne mediacije v zdravstvo v Sloveniji</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:DOC-SO4PCMXY"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:DOC-SO4PCMXY" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-SO4PCMXY/2c250bef-27fa-4c08-8cad-2118f22ef814/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Nacionalni inštitut za javno zdravje</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-SO4PCMXY/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-SO4PCMXY" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
