In the first part of the article, the author seeks to systematise the chaotic and heterogeneous field of theoretical and analytical approaches to discourse analysis and locate critical discourse analysis within a wider theoretical context. In the second part of the article, the author focuses attention on some theoretical, methodological and epistemological dilemmas evident in critical discourse analysis. The author sheds light on some critiques that have emerged from similar approaches. In addition, some basic theoretical concepts of critical discourse analysis, such as discourse, ideology critique, hegemony and intertextuality are examined, because they have sometimes appeared to be problematic. The author mainly focuses on Norman Fairclough's approach and claims that the reason for the several theoretical contradictions in his work is due to the division between the discursive and extra-discursive elements of the social. The author supports this thesis by comparing critical discourse analysis with Ernesto Laclau's and Chantal Mouffe's discourse theory that rejects the dichotomy between the discursive and extra-discursive. At the end, a synthesis of the two approaches is presented and shows that the two approaches can be complementary on both the theoretical and empirical levels - especially in linking the concepts of hegemony and discourse with the concept of intertextualityNamen prispevka je predstaviti kritično diskurzivno analizo, ki je danes ena pomembnejših in prodornejših šol znotraj kvalitativnih pristopov k analizi tekstov. V prvem delu prispevka skuša avtorica sistematizirati kaotično in heterogeno področje pristopov k diskurzivnim analizam ter mednje umestiti tudi šolo kritične diskurzivne analize. V drugem delu se posveti nekaterim odprtim teoretskim, metodološkim in epistemološkim dilemam kritične diskurzivne analize, s poudarkom na kritikah, ki prihajajo iz sorodnih pristopov. V obdelavo vzame tudi nekaj temeljnih teoretskih konceptov, s katerimi operirajo pristopi znotraj šole kritične diskurzivne analize. Koncepti, kot so diskurz, kritika ideologije, hegemonija in intertekstualnost, so pri kritični diskurzivni analizi mestoma problematični. Avtorica se osredotoči predvsem na pristop Normana Fairclougha in trdi, da temelj kontradiktornosti njegovih konceptov izhaja iz razločevanja med diskurzivnimi in zunajdiskurzivnimi družbenimi elementi. Svojo tezo avtorica podpre s primerjavo kritične diskurzivne analize z diskurzivno teorijo Ernesta Laclaua in Chantal Mouffe, ki omenjeno delitev zavračata.
