The corpus of our study consists of two Romanian versions of the same novel, Le Feu (Under Fire: The Story of a Squad), whose author Henri Barbusse took part as a frontline fighter in this bloody conflict, describing the horrors of war with indignation and gentleness, but not without humour. Published in 1916 and winning the prestigious Prix Goncourt the same year, Le Feu (Under Fire: The Story of a Squad) saw its first Romanian version in 1918 and the second 37 years later, in 1955. Our aim is to show how the two translators succeeded in rendering in Romanian the special slang of the French soldiers, les poilus (literally "the hairy ones" according to their own nickname, which in French slang means "brave, courageux"), at a time when this linguistic phenomenon was not widely known in Romania (the inter-war period), or was even hardly acknowledged as such (after the establishment of communism in 1947)Quatre ans apres qu'on a feté le centenaire du commencement de la Premiere Guerre mondiale, en 2014, notre contribution se veut un modeste hommage aux braves soldats français (les "poilus") qui ont perdu leur vie dans une conflagration ayant duré quatre ans. Le corpus de notre étude sera constitué par les deux versions roumaines d'un meme roman, Le Feu, dont l'auteur, Henri Barbusse a pris part en tant que combattant en premiere ligne a ce conflit sanglant, décrivant les horreurs de la guerre avec indignation et douceur, mais non sans humour. Paru en 1916 et remportant le prestigieux Prix Goncourt la meme année, Le Feu (Journal d'une escouade) a connu sa premiere version roumaine en 1918, la seconde étant publiée 37 ans plus tard, en 1955. Notre but sera de voir comment les deux traducteurs ont réussi a rendre en roumain l'argot spécial des soldats français (appelé "poilu" d'apres leur propre surnom, mot qui signifie dans l'argot français "brave, courageux"), et cela dans des périodes ou ce phénomene linguistique n'était pas tres connu en Roumanie (l'entre-deux-guerres) ou bien on ne lui reconnaissait presque meme pas l'existence (apres l'installation du communisme, survenue en 1947) !Namen našega prispevka, štiri leta po stoti obletnici komemoracij začetka prve svetovne vojne v 1914, je skromen poklon francoskim vojakom, imenovanim "bradači" (les "poilus"), ki so izgubili svoja življenja v tem krutem štiriletnem spopadu. Za korpus naše študije smo izbrali oba romunska prevoda romana Ogenj (Le Feu), katerega avtor, Henri Barbusse, je sodeloval v krvavih spopadih in je z ogorčenjem, sočutjem, a ne brez humorja opisal grozote vojne. Roman Le Feu (Ogenj), ki je izšel leta 1916 in je istega leta dobil prestižno knjižno nagrado Goncourt, je bil prvič preveden v romunščino leta 1918, drugi prevod je bil objavljen 37 let kasneje, v letu 1955. Namen naše študije je analizirati, kako sta oba prevoda uspela v romunščino prenesti specifični argo francoskih vojakov (imenovan "poilu", poimenovan enako kot sami vojaki; beseda pa v francoskem argoju označuje nekoga, ki je pogumen).
