The article raises the old question of \"which love is the right one\". In antiquity,the answer lay in the key difference between the love of boys and of women. Tragedies present fatal and impossible love for a woman, Aphrodite without Eros, whereas Plutarch's praise of the love of women in his Dialogue on Love unites the functions of Eros and Aphrodite. The result of this \"mixture\" of physical and philosophical love, represented by Aphrodite and Eros respectively, is a marriage based on love and accompanied bz friendship.
