We attempted to determine whether the bahavior of cumulus cells in culture medium is also reflected in the fertilization capacity of the oocyte and embryo quality. Methods. In 69 patients undergoing IVF, the oocyte - cumulus complex was obtained by follicle puncture. On the day following the puncture, cumulus cell morphology and fertilization were evaluated. After three days of culture, the proliferation of cumulus cells was evaluated and on the day of embryo transfer, i. e. on the third day after puncture, embryo quality also. Results. After one day of culture, the transformation of cumulus cells from spherical to stellate form was noted in 87.0% cell samples, in 5.8% of samples the cells adhered to the bottom but retained their spherical form and in 7.2% of samples the cumulus cells remained in the suspension. After three days of culture, the cumulus cells exhibited good proliferation in 65.2% of samples, in 34.8% of samples proliferation was minimal or absent. The comparison of cumulus cell transformation after one day of culture and proliferation evaluated after three days of culture revealed their correlation. No relationship was found between the proliferative capacity of cumulus cells and fertilization, but we were able to confirm the relationship between the proliferative capacity of cumulus cells and embryo morphology. Conclusions. Under in vitro conditions, cumulus cells express a different capacity of morphological transformation and proliferation. From the pattern of cumulus cells proliferation we can infer to the embryo quality but not to the fertilization capacity of the oocyte</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Izhodišča. Kumulusne celice v in vitro pogojih izražajo različno sposobnost spreminjanja oblike in različno sposobnost razmnoževanja. Na podlagi vzorca razmnoževanja kumulusnih celic lahko sklepamo na kakovost zarodka, ne pa tudi na oploditveno sposobnost jajčne celice</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:DOC-QELELJGX"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:DOC-QELELJGX" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-QELELJGX/94101ea1-7540-4f5b-b959-96a9d5c1b40e/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Slovensko zdravniško društvo</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-QELELJGX/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-QELELJGX" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
