The amount of salvage logging(the number of trees and their volume) was analyzed at the state, regional, and compartment level. In the studied period, salvage logging amounted to 29% of total cut, mainly due to insect infestation (34% of total salvage logging), windthrow (14%), snow-breakage (10%) and ice storm (8%). Therest of salvage logging (i.e. 33%) took place due to decaying and physiologically weakened trees, diseases and fungi, damage by forest operations, emissions, wildlife, and avalanches and landslides. The susceptibility of trees to natural disturbances differed according to tree species and its diameter. Conifers, particularly spruce, prevailed in salvage logging (61% of the total salvage logging). Wind and insects mostly affected stands with a higher proportion of medium and large diameter trees while damage due to snow and sleet was more frequent in younger stands. The quantityof salvage logging and its causes varied also among phyto-geographic regions. While damage by insects and other causes prevailed in the Dinaric region, wind and snow were the main reasons for salvage logging in the Alps. Sleet mostly damaged forests in the Sub-Alpine region. Forest fires prevailed in the Sub-Mediterranean region. The amount and the structure of salvage logging is partly a result of natural disturbances in forest ecosystems, on the other hand it also reflects effectiveness of forest management. Analyses of salvage logging are therefore an important basis for reducing risks in forest management"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Raziskava temelji na podatkovnih zbirkah Zavoda za gozdove o sanitarnem posekuv Sloveniji v obdobju 1995-2012. Podatke o količini sanitarnega poseka (število dreves in njihov volumen) smo analizirali na ravni države, fitogeografskih regij in oddelkov. V proučevanem obdobju je sanitarni posek znašal 29 % celotnega poseka; poglavitni vzroki zanj so bili insekti (34 % celotnega sanitarnega poseka), veter (14 %), sneg (10 %) in žled (8 %), vzrokiza skupno 33 % sanitarnega poseka so bili odmirajoče in fiziološko oslabelo drevje, bolezni in glive, poškodbe zaradi del v gozdu, emisije, divjad ter plazovi in usadi. Dovzetnost dreves za naravne motnje je bila različna glede na drevesno vrsto in debelino drevja. V sanitarnem poseku so prevladovali iglavci, zlasti smreka (61 % celotnega sanitarnega poseka). Veterin insekti so večinoma prizadeli sestoje z debelejšim drevjem, poškodbe zaradi snega in žleda pa so bile pogostejše v mlajših sestojih. Količina sanitarnega poseka in vzroki zanj so se med fitogeografskimi območji razlikovali. Posek zaradi insektov in drugih vzrokov je bil največji v dinarskem območju, v alpskem je prevladoval posek zaradi vetra in snega, žled je najbolj prizadel gozdove v predalpskem prostoru, požari pa submediteranske gozdove. Količina in struktura sanitarnega poseka sta posledici naravnih motenj, hkrati pa odražata (ne)uspešnost dosedanjega gospodarjenja.
