It is theoretically investigated the cellular signalling, which is based on protein cascades activated by an increased intracellular calcium concentration. In particular, it is analysed the role of protein cascades in smoothening of cellular signals with short reaction time and the role of protein cascades in amplification of signals which should preserve their form. An analogy with signal transduction in electrical engineering systems is conducted. The behaviour of biological systems is directly compared with known solutions in electrical engineering systems. In the thesis two main original scientific contributions are presented. First, it is shown that smoothening of oscillatory signals with fast on-off characteristics can be realised by a small number of cascade levels. Second, cascade amplifiers are also appropriate for amplifying signals which should preserve their form. This is a successful solution in biological as well as in electro engineering systems</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Tema doktorske disertacije sodi na področje celične signalizacije. Predstavljena je teoretična obravnava celične signalizacije, ki temelji na proteinskih kaskadah, katerih aktivacija je pogojena s koncentracijo prostih ?$Ca^{2+}$? ionov v znotrajceličnem prostoru. Proučujemo vlogo proteinskih kaskad pri glajenju celičnih signalov s kratkim odzivnim časom in vlogo proteinskih kaskad pri ohranjanju pulzne oblike ojačanih signalov. Izdelana je analogija s prenosom signalov v elektrotehniki, pri čemer primerjamo delovanje bioloških sistemov z znanimi mehanizmi delovanja v električnih vezjih. V delu sta predstavljena dva ključna izvirna znanstvena prispevka. Pokažemo, da je glajenje pulznih signalov s hitrimi vklopno-izklopnimi karakteristikami zagotovljeno že z malim številom kaskadnih ciklov.
