Publishing the results of scientific research is the basic function of scientific information and communication. Through systematical data collection bibliometrics evaluates and analyses the articles published. Bibliometric analysis of a scientific journal is, to a great extent, also analysis of the research field covered by the respective journal. Objectives and methods: Quantitative bibliometric analysis of Zdravstveno varstvo issues from 1992 to 2000 provided an objectivepicture of the journal and its development over the period studied. Results and conclusion: Research in public health is undoubtedly a medical field with a distinctive sociological character. It is concerned with medicineand health care, and with health, as a social phenomenon. Public health research should be evaluated in a manner different than that used for research in other medical fields, e.g. clinical medicine. Similarly, articles published in the Slovene language in national periodicals have different weight and are evaluated in a specific way"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Izhodišče: V procesu znanstvenega komuniciranja se informacije izmenjujejo in osrednjo vlogo pri posredovanju informacij ima znanstvena periodika. Objavljanje rezultatov znanstvenega raziskovanja je osnovna značilnost procesaznanstvenega informiranja in komuniciranja. Bibliometrija in njene metode s sistematičnim zbiranjem podatkov merijo in analizirajo objave. Bibliometrijska analiza posamezne revije je v veliki meri tudi analiza raziskovalnega področja, ki ga revija pokriva. Cilji in metode: V analizo smo zajeli zadnjih dvanajst letnikov (1992-2003) revije Zdravstveno varstvo. S pomočjo kvantitativnih bibliometrijskih metod smo pridobili objektivno sliko ocelotni reviji in njenem razvoju v zadnjih dvanajstih letih. Rezultati in zaključek: Pri raziskovalnem in strokovnem področju revije Zdravstveno varstvogre nedvomno za medicinsko področje, ki ima tudi zelo močen družboslovni značaj. Ukvarja se z medicino, zdravstvom in zdravjem kot družbenim pojavom. Raziskovanje na področju zdravstvenega varstva je potrebno ocenjevati in vrednotiti drugače kot raziskovanje na drugih področjih medicine, npr. klinične medicine.
