A pilot study included 10 healthy individuals and 10 individuals with MS. Participants performed ankle plantar flexion at three different levels of voluntary isometric contraction (20, 60, and 100 % of maximum). During ankle plantar flexion, the tibial nerve was stimulated with trains of PES at frequencies of 20 and 80 Hz. Three-way analyses of variance, conducted separately for each intensity of muscle contraction, revealed differences in ankle plantar flexion torque before, during, and after PES. Torque was found to decrease over time, with a more pronounced decrease at 80 Hz PES. MF was influenced by the frequency of PES, with a more significant increase observed during 80 Hz PES. Moreover, PES did not affect the amplitude of the EMG signal. No differences in the effects of PES on ankle plantar flexion torque, MF or EMG amplitude of the soleus muscle were observed between the groups. The results of this pilot study suggest that tibial nerve PES has limited potential for acutely increasing ankle plantar flexion torque</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Namen raziskave je bil ugotoviti, ali električna stimulacija tibialnega živca z jakostjo pod motoričnim pragom (PES) med hotenim izometričnim naprezanjem iztegovalk gležnja vpliva na proizvedeni navor in amplitudo ter mediano frekvenco (MF) elektromiograma (EMG) mišice soleus pri zdravih odraslih in tistih z multiplo sklerozo (MS). V pilotni raziskavi je sodelovalo deset zdravih posameznikov in deset bolnikov z MS. Preizkušanci so izvedli izometrično naprezanje iztegovalk gležnja pri treh različnih stopnjah (20, 60 in 100 % največjega hotenega izometričnega naprezanja). Med izometričnim naprezanjem iztegovalk gležnja smo tibialni živec stimulirali z vlakoma PES pri frekvencah 20 in 80 Hz. Tristranske analize variance, izvedene ločeno za vsako stopnjo mišičnega naprezanja, so pokazale, da se navor iztegovalk gležnja razlikuje pred, med in po PES. Navor je bil največji pred vlakom PES in najmanjši po njem. Zmanjšanje navora je bilo najizrazitejše pri 80 Hz PES, MF signala EMG pa je bila največja pri PES z 80 Hz. PES ni vplivala na amplitudo signala EMG. Učinki PES med skupinama se niso razlikovali.
