The article deals with those usually encountered in patients with mental disorders, auditory hallucinations being the most frequent. The article also presents phenom ena, which are similar to auditory hal1ucinations and are hence important in differential diagnosis. It is important for physician to know thedifferences between various disturbances of auditory perception. This knowledge enables him to make a correct diagnosis and to take appropriate steps. When auditory hal1ucinations or illusions cause the patient to be violent against him self or others, urgent measures are necessary.
