Both experience and scientific knowledge are important factors for use of fire as a management tool. Furthermore, the implementation of prescribed burning requires close cooperation among specialists and operational people from different areas of expertise. Education and public awareness about the benefits and possible risks of fire is very important, affecting successful introduction of prescribed burning. Recommendations are given for further research and application of prescribed burning in Slovenia. The use of prescribed burning is a type of management which is neither often used nor well known in Slovenia. The aim of this paper is to present prescribed burning as one of the possible management measures for reducing forest fire risk and maintaining biodiversity in Slovenian territory"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Namensko požiganje je ukrep, kjer na vnaprej določeni površini uporabljamo ogenj kot orodje za doseganje vnaprej postavljenih ciljev. Pri tem skušamo v skladu z okoljskimi razmerami doseči določeno (želeno) toplotno intenzivnost in stopnjo širjenja. Njegovo izvajanje terja veliko znanja in izkušenj ter dobro sodelovanje strokovnega in operativnega osebja z različnih področij. Eden izmed pomembnejših dejavnikov, ki vplivajo na uspešno vpeljevanje namenskega požiga, je tudi intenzivno izobraževanje in ozaveščanje javnosti o prednostih ter nevarnostih, ki jih požig lahko prinaša. Možnosti uporabe namenskega požiga v Sloveniji so še razmeroma neraziskane.
