The aim of the study was to simulate 800 m running performance by using different enhancements of performance characteristics: vmax, v400 and v12min. The results have shown that the regression model succesfully predicted performance of 800 m runners. Power of each of the performance characteristics have shown that all are important in prediction of 800 m running. This is particularly important during observation of shorter duration of running at highest running velocities when simulation of world record was the aim of analysis. Namely, the importance of endurance performance even enhanced in parallel to increased maximal velocity and anaerobic endurance. Differently, the velocity model have shown more sensitivity to individual adaptations on training. This model seems to be very useful in simulation of running performance by using enhancements in performance characteristics</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Na osnovi podatkov in rezultatov raziskave na tekačih na srednje in dolge proge (Šturm, J.; Ušaj A., 1985) in na osnovi podatkov iz tekmovalnih sezon nekaterih kvalitetnih slovenskih tekačev na 800 m sta bila izdelana in preizkušena dva modela: regresijski, ki je uporabil podatke 65 tekačev, in hitrostni, ki je uporabil rezultate nekaterih posameznikov. Namen naloge je bil ugotoviti, katere nove informacije lahko ponudita oba modela. Ugotovljeno je, da je regresijski model uporaben pri opazovanju jakosti povezav med posameznimi značilnostmi tekačev: vmax, v400 in v12min in njihovo tekmovalno zmogljivostjo, pa tudi pri opazovanju povezav med značilnostmi vadbe in posameznimi značilnostmi tekačev. Ugotovljeno je, da se pri doseganju vrhunskih rezultatov v teku na 800 m vloga vzdržljivosti ne zmanjšuje kljub skrajšanju trajanja teka. Hitrostni model je po drugi strani bolj primeren pri opazovanju vadbenih učinkov pri posameznem tekaču.
