The aim of this umbrella review was to examine the impact of exercise interventions on the skeletal system in older adults. Electronic databases PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Science Direct were scanned for studies, published between 2012 and 2022. Twenty-eight systematic reviews met the inclusion criteria. Evidence for water-based exercise, aerobic exercise, resistance training, impact activities, combined exercise, vibration training, and mind-body exercise was provided. Bone mineral density was measured at the lumbar spine, femoral neck, total hip, trochanter, Ward’s triangle, whole body, tibia, and wrist. Participants were predominantly women. Combined exercise interventions that include resistance training, were found to be the most effective for increasing bone mineral density in older adults. Resistance exercise alone also has a positive impact on the skeletal system. Impact activities are not recommended due to safety concerns. Less effective interventions are water-based, mind-body and aerobic exercise. Vibration training represents an effective alternative for older individuals, who cannot engage in highintensity exercise. In conclusion, any form of exercise can be beneficial, as long as individual’s bone characteristics are considered"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Kost je dinamično tkivo, odzivno na mehanske obremenitve, zato je vadba pomembna za ohranjanje ali povečevanje mineralne kostne gostote v starosti. Namen znanstvenega članka je s krovnim pregledom literature preučiti vpliv različnih vadbenih intervencij na kostni sistem starejših odraslih. Vire, objavljene med letoma 2012 in 2022, smo pridobili iz elektronskih baz PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science in Science Direct. Vključili smo 28 sistematičnih pregledov. Ti viri so ugotavljali učinkovitost vadbe v vodi, aerobne vadbe, vadbe proti uporu, udarnih aktivnosti, kombinirane vadbe, vibracijskega treninga in duhovno-telesne vadbe. V študijah so merili mineralno kostno gostoto v predelu ledvene hrbtenice, vratu stegnenice, celotnega kolka, trohantra, Wardovega trikotnika, celega telesa, golenice in zapestja. Med preiskovanci so bile večinoma ženske. Ugotavljamo, da je kombinirana vadba, ki vključuje vadbo proti uporu, najučinkovitejša za povečevanje mineralne kostne gostote pri starostnikih. Tudi vadba proti uporu kot samostojna intervencija pozitivno vpliva na kostni sistem. Udarne aktivnosti niso najprimernejše zaradi povečanega tveganja za poškodbe. Manj učinkovite intervencije za povečevanje mineralne kostne gostote so vadba v vodi, duhovno-telesna vadba in aerobna vadba. Za starejše, ki ne zmorejo visoko intenzivne vadbe, je primeren vibracijski trening.
