It assesses compliance with EU Regulation 2017/852 and the Minamata Convention, exploring factors associated with material choice, dentists’ awareness of regulations, and the use of amalgam separators. The study also identifies challenges and proposes support mechanisms to facilitate a smoother transition to mercury-free dentistry. Methods: The research was conducted as a cross-sectional study with 171 dentists who collected data on amalgam use, alternative materials, legislation, and separators through a questionnaire. Results: The study revealed regional and sector-specific variations in amalgam use, emphasizing the role of education, financial incentives, and safety standards on professional practices and the environmental impact. Amalgam use varied the most in adult clinics, influenced by clinical needs, patient preferences, and systemic barriers related to reimbursing costs for alternative materials not covered by health insurance until recently. Paediatric clinics demonstrated higher compliance with phase-out guidelines, highlighting the effectiveness of targeted training and policy interventions. Conclusions: The results of this study provide valuable insights for policymakers and other stakeholders to enhance and improve the planning and implementation of measures (primarily regulative) and support mechanisms to mitigate health risks associated with the use of mercury and encourage transition to safer dental practices. Since the level of compliance with regulatory requirements varies across regions, targeted measures, particularly in adult clinics, can improve the transition process. Targeted educational programs and financial incentives are crucial for the successful gradual phase-out of dental amalgam. Limitations: Potential response bias may arise due to voluntary participation and reliance on self-reported data, which could have influenced the comprehensiveness of responses"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Izhodišča: V študiji smo preučili odgovore 171 zobozdravnikov na obsežen vprašalnik o trenutni uporabi in postopnem opuščanju amalgama v zobozdravstveni praksi. Ocenili smo skladnost dela zobozdravnikov z Uredbo Evropske unije (EU) 2017/852 in Minamatsko konvencijo ter raziskali dejavnike, ki so povezani z izbiro materialov, ozaveščenost zobozdravni-kov o predpisih in uporabi amalgamskih separatorjev. Študija prav tako opredeljuje probleme in predlaga možne podpor-ne mehanizme za lažji prehod v zobozdravstvo brez živega srebra.Metode: Raziskavo smo izvedli kot presečno študijo na vzorcu 171 zobozdravnikov. Podatke smo zbrali z vprašalnikom o uporabi amalgama, alternativnih materialov, o zakonodaji in separatorjih.Rezultati: Študija je pokazala regionalne in sektorske razlike pri uporabi amalgama ter poudarila ključno vlogo izobraže-vanja, finančnih spodbud, pomen ohranjanja varnostnih standardov za zobozdravstvene strokovnjake in varovanje okolja. Uporaba amalgama je bila najbolj variabilna v ambulantah za odrasle, kjer so nanjo vplivale klinične potrebe, preference pacientov in sistemske ovire, povezane z vračilom stroškov za alternativne materiale, ki jih obvezno zdravstveno zavaro-vanje do nedavnega ni priznalo. Pediatrične ambulante so pokazale višjo skladnost s smernicami za postopno opuščanje amalgama, kar poudarja učinkovitost ciljnega izobraževanja in političnih ukrepov.Zaključek: Rezultati študije nudijo dragocen vpogled v problemska področja, omogočajo podlago za snovalce politik in odločevalce ter druge, ki si prizadevajo za izboljšanje načrtovanja in izvajanje ukrepov (predvsem predpisov) in podpornih mehanizmov za zmanjšanje zdravstvenih tveganj, povezanih z uporabo živega srebra. Spodbujajo bolj učinkovit prehod na varnejšo zobozdravstveno varstvo. Ker se stopnja skladnosti s predpisanimi zahtevami med regijami razlikuje, lahko ciljno usmerjeni ukrepi, zlasti v ambulantah za odrasle, izboljšajo prehodni proces. Ciljno usmerjeni izobraževalni programi in finančne spodbude so ključnega pomena za uspešno postopno popolno opuščanje zobnega amalgama.Omejitve: Možna pristranskost pri odgovorih lahko izhaja iz prostovoljnega sodelovanja in zanašanja na samoocenjevanje podatkov, kar bi lahko vplivalo na celovitost odgovorov"}],"edm:type":"TEXT","dc:type":[{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"znanstveno časopisje"},{"@xml:lang":"en","#text":"journals"},{"@rdf:resource":"http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785"}]},"ore:Aggregation":{"@rdf:about":"http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:DOC-EVVN92QA","edm:aggregatedCHO":{"@rdf:resource":"URN:NBN:SI:DOC-EVVN92QA"},"edm:isShownBy":{"@rdf:resource":"http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-EVVN92QA/24c05bcc-ae23-461d-811c-4bab04688e31/PDF"},"edm:rights":{"@rdf:resource":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/"},"edm:provider":"Slovenian National E-content Aggregator","edm:intermediateProvider":{"@xml:lang":"en","#text":"National and University Library of Slovenia"},"edm:dataProvider":{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Slovensko zdravniško društvo"},"edm:object":{"@rdf:resource":"http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-EVVN92QA/maxi/edm"},"edm:isShownAt":{"@rdf:resource":"http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-EVVN92QA"}}}}
