In the unusual dual role of censor and philologist, he was the first to collect extensive documentation of popular Italian written texts during a crucial period of Italian linguistic history. The first part of the present paper focuses on the linguistic and communicative properties of the letters included and analyzed in the volume Italienische Kriegsgefangenenbriefe, published by Spitzer in 1921 and trans-lated into Italian in 1976 (Lettere di prigionieri di guerra italiani), whereas the second part deals with stylistic and onomasiological aspects of the circumlocutions expressing hunger, on the basis of Spitzer's study Die Umschreibungen des Begriffes ''Hunger'' im Italienischen (1920) and with reference to his work Motiv und Wort (1918)"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Dal settembre 1915 alla fine del primo conflitto mondiale, il romanista viennese Leo Spitzer fu comandato presso la sezione Censura dell'Ufficio centrale d'informazione sui prigionieri di guerra austriaco, con l'incarico di vagliare la corrispondenza dei prigionieri italiani. In questa insolita duplice veste di censore-filologo, egli ha avuto modo di collezionare la prima e piu ampia documentazione di testi scritti italiani di matrice popolare, in una fase cruciale per la storia linguistica del Paese. La prima parte del presente contributo verte sullo statuto linguistico-comunicativo del materiale epistolare raccolto e analizzato nel volume intitolato Italienische Kriegsge-fangenenbriefe, pubblicato da Spitzer nel 1921 e tradotto in italiano nel 1976 (Lettere di prigionieri di guerra italiani), mentre la seconda parte e dedicata allo studio stilistico-onomasiologico sulle circonlocuzioni per esprimere la fame, Die Umschrei-bungen des Begriffes ''Hunger'' im Italienischen (1920), con riferimento al lavoro spitzeriano Motiv und Wort del 1918"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Septembra 1915 je bil dunajski romanist Leo Spitzer poslan v cenzurni oddelek avstrijskega centralnega urada za informacije o vojnih ujetnikih, kjer je bil do konca vojne zadolžen za pregledovanje korespondence italijanskih ujetnikov. Spitzerju, ki se je v ključnem obdobju italijanske jezikovne zgodovine znašel v tej neobičajni dvojni vlogi cenzorja in filologa, je uspelo zbrati prvi in izjemno obsežen korpus dokumentov, sestavljen iz italijanskih besedil, za katera je značilna neknjižna jezikovna raba. Prvi del članka se ukvarja z jezikovno-komunikacijskimi lastnostmi pisemskega gradiva, zbranega in analiziranega v knjigi Italienische Kriegsgefangenenbriefe, ki jo je Spitzer objavil leta 1921 in ki je izšla v italijanskem prevodu leta 1976 (Lettere di prigionieri di guerra italiani).
