In World War I, the first large-scale mechanised war, intensive use of previously known as well as new weapons took place. To these weapons, as well as to other death machines of the time, correspond both old designations and neologisms used by the soldeirs. V prvi svetovni vojni, ki je bila prva vojna, kjer je bila v veliki meri uporabljena vojna mehanizacija, se je intenzivno posegalo tako po že znanih kot novih orožjih. Tem orožjem, kot tudi ostalim orodjem smrti, ki so se uporabljala v tem času, ustrezajo tako uveljavljena poimenovanja kot neologizmi v jeziku francoskih vojakov.
