After identifying a very recent turnaround of this trend now including Balkan Mediterranean states in Mediterranean regional politics, the article offers reasoning for the emergence of this change by exposing mutual reinforcement of three processes; namely critique of the unsuccessful EU-lead Mediterranean regional framework, upcoming completion of the state-formation in the Balkans and the effects of continuous non-governmental regional initiatives in the Mediterranean. The finding that Balkan NGOs have been participating in the Mediterranean regional affairs eversince the end of the Cold War whereby the (Western) Balkan Mediterranean states have done so only since the 2008 inclusion within the Union for the Mediterranean shows an important possibility to compensate this imbalance, butonly if the "shift to the Mediterranean" is not an instrumental foreign policy strategy as was the 1990s "away from the Balkans"</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:DOC-CWHGFQXL"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:DOC-CWHGFQXL" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-CWHGFQXL/51412f08-efc6-4dc6-8474-b27f459027e3/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Univerza v Ljubljani, Fakulteta za družbene vede</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-CWHGFQXL/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-CWHGFQXL" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
