Soil behaves as a plastic material under loading conditions. As the deformation of soil increases, its stiffness changes. The stiffness of soil is very important in the case of dynamic loading conditions, and is described in terms of the shear modulus. Time-consuming laboratory tests are needed to determine the shear modulus. With an increase in the shear strain the shear modulus decrease. The reduction curve depends on several parameters. Different authors have suggested many empirical equations to describe the strain-modulus relation, but no general rule has been found. This paper presents a way of combining the resonant column test and the routine triaxial test results</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Zemljine kot gradbeni material nastopajo najpogosteje v temeljih konstrukcij, pogosto pa so uporabljene tudi kot osnovni gradnik geotehničnih objektov. Pod vplivom obremenitev je njihovo vedenje izrazito plastično. Z naraščanjem deformacije se bistveno spreminja njihova togost, katere poznanje je posebej pomembno pri dinamičnih obremenitvah. Določanje velikosti strižnega modula pri zemljinah zahteva dolgotrajne laboratorijske preiskave. Strižni modul z naraščanjem deformacije upada, način spreminjanja vrednosti pa je odvisen od številnih dejavnikov. Različni avtorji so poskušali z empiričnimi formulami opisati te povezave, vendar so neuporabne za splošen primer.
