The sink of the available carbon into the chemical and biological structures in such a heterogeneous ecosystem as forest and, above all, processes in the soil part of C cycle, are poorly understood because of our limited ability to observe them. The release of CO2 through respiration of roots and microorganisms is an important part of carbon fluxes; the same is the role of litter decomposition for C flux in the soil organic matter (SOM). At the Slovenian Forestry Institute several research methods for estimation of parameters needed for modeling of C dynamics in forest soils and used in modeling of C budgets in forest ecosystem have been applied and/or developed. In this article we present a short review of methods for studies of the selected processes in forest soils, especially fine root turnover and litter decomposition</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">V kopenskih ekosistemih so največje zaloge ogljika (C) v gozdnih tleh. Ponor razpoložljivega C v kemične in biološke strukture v tako heterogenem ekosistemu kot je gozd in predvsem del krogotoka C, ki poteka v tleh, je zaradi omejenega vpogleda v talne procese še posebno slabo znan. Izpust CO2 z respiracijo korenin in mikroorganizmov in pretok C v organsko komponento tal z dekompozicijo odmrlih organizmov ali njihovih delov je pomemben del krogotoka C v gozdnih tleh. Za namene študije in boljšega poznavanja dinamike C na Gozdarskem inštitutu Slovenije uporabljamo in razvijamo več metod za ocenjevanje parametrov, ki so potrebni za modeliranje dinamike C v gozdnih tleh.
