Mostly, small mammals (50.4%) and insects (38.2%) had been preyed on. A total of 59 taxa were found in the pelleds, of which 21 were mammal and 13 beetle species were identified. The most common prey species were the Yellow-necked Mouse Apodemus flavicollis (17.2%) and the Wood Mouse Apodemus sylvaticus (6.6%). The highest biomass proportion in the Tawny Owl's diet was that for the Pat Dormouse Glis glis (28.3%). The owls fed on prey opportunistically, reflecting a wide feeding niche (H' = 0.886). Seasonal changes in prey species ratio was established. V obdobju od jeseni 2002 do pomladi 2005 smo na 13 lokalitetah nabrali 600 izbljuvkov in evidentirali 2028 enot plena. Polovico plena je lesna sova pridobila s plenjenem malih sesalcev (50.4%), več kot tretjino pa s plenjenjem velikih žuželk (38.2%). V izbljuvkih smo določili 59 taksonov, od tega 21 vrst sesalcev in 13 taksonov hroščev. Lesna sova je najpogosteje plenila rumenogrlo miš Apodemus flavicollis (17.2%) in navadno belonogo miš Apodemussylvaticus (6.6%). Največji delež biomase plena v prehrani lesne sove je šel na račun navadnega polha Glis glis (28.3%). Plen je sova izbirala oportunistično, kar se izkazuje z veliko pestrostjo uplenjenih vrst in visokim indeksom trofične diverzitete (H' = 0.886). Predstavljene so spremembe vrstne sestave plena glede na letne čase, v zimskem obdobju ni polhov, dvoživk in žuželk, ki zunaj zimskega obdobja zasedajo ca. polovico biomasnega deleža plena.
