The final stroke seemed to be the internationalization of capital accounts. Especially the latter does not mean a new choice of macroeconomic policies in industrial countries, but is rather a consequence of technological change causing change in business practice. Growing productivity has pushed the requirements for bigger markets and this development was followed by the emergence of supranational companies.
