This topic is interesting because Slovenia - as a small country with few qualified personnel - is seeking to enforce a knowledge-based society. The authors attempt to find out how much the MFA invests in the education and training of its employees. The results of the analysis show that: a) the MFA does not invest enough in human resources; b) education and training depend on an individualŽs desires/preferences and are not performed systematically; and c) the MFA does not have sophisticated instruments for the promotion of education which is reflected in the low participation rate of employees in educational programmes. Therefore, the article suggests that in the future the MFA should develop a policy of the promotion and stronger encouragement of the education and training of its employees</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Članek proučuje kadrovsko strukturo, izobraževanje in usposabljanje zaposlenih na Ministrstvu za zunanje zadeve (MZZ) od osamosvojitve dalje. Ta tema je zanimiva zato, ker se Slovenija kot majhna država z majhnim številom usposobljenih kadrov zavzema za uveljavitev družbe znanja. Avtorja zanima, koliko MZZ vlaga v izobraževanje in usposabljanje svojih zaposlenih. Rezultati analize vodijo do ugotovitev, da: a) MZZ premalo vlaga v kadre; b) izobraževanje in usposabljanje izhajata iz želja vsakega posameznika in se ne odvijata sistemsko; c) MZZ nima dodelanih instrumentov za spodbujanje izobraževanja, kar vodi do tega, da se ga udeležuje malo zaposlenih.
