Functions of mineral sealing layers as geotechnical barriers are: minimisation of permeability, adsorption of pollutants, resistance to erosion, self healing ability, resistance to swelling and shrinkage. Resistance of compacted clay liners to swelling and shrinkage is important because it can cause macrostructural defects such as cracks and discontinuities. It is related to hydrogeological conditions (water content), grain size distribution and mineral composition of clay. In this work we determined expansion degree of nine different clays from Slovenia. Out of nine different samples there were found useful for construction of compacted clay liners</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Za izdelavo tesnilnih plasti odlagališč odpadkov in tesnilnih sistemov za objekte, ki potrebujejo posebno talno zaščito, se pogosto uporabljajo glinene zemljine z ustreznimi lastnostmi. Funkcije mineralne tesnilne plasti so: zmanjšanje prepustnosti, absorpcija onesnaževal, odpornost proti eroziji, zmožnost samoreparacije. Ena bistvenih lastnosti glin pri uporabi za tesnilne sisteme je nabrekanje, ki lahko povzroči nastanek razpok in diskontinuitet. Na stopnjo nabrekanja gline vpliva: količina dodane vode, porazdelitev velikosti delcev in mineralna sestava gline. V predstavljenem delu smo ugotovili stopnjo nabrekanja devetih različnih glin iz Slovenije. Od devetih vzorcev so se trije izkazali kot primerni za uporabo v tesnilnih sistemih.
