Within a decade, MRSA was established as an important nosocomial pathogen in both the adult and pediatric populations. MRSA has also emerged asa pathogen in adults and children without traditional risk factors for MRSA infection. Recent studies have demonstrated that these strains have novel resistance and virulence genes. This review focuses on the epidemiology of MRSA infections and the genetic background of methicillin resistance. The genetic background of methicillin resistance and the transfer of the resistance genes between staphylococci are discussed. A theory of MRSA evolution and the development of major globally spread MRSA clones are presented. In addition, widely used methods for the diagnostic and typing of MRSA isolates are also summarized</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Proti meticilinu odporen Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) je bil prvič izoliran pred več kot 30 leti in kmalu postal eden najpomembnejših povzročiteljev bolnišničnih okužb tako pri odrasli kot tudi pri otroški populaciji. Pričujoči prispevek podaja pregled obstoječe literature o epidemiologijiokužb z MRSA in vzrokih odpornosti proti meticilinu. V zadnjem delu pregleda so predstavljene molekularne metode, ki se najpogosteje uporabljajo v diagnostiki okužb z MRSA in pri tipizaciji kliničnih izolatov MRSA</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:DOC-4TGD56ZJ"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:DOC-4TGD56ZJ" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-4TGD56ZJ/1407f106-bfab-4c99-8b88-a016f4d5dc2f/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Društvo Medicinski razgledi</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-4TGD56ZJ/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:DOC-4TGD56ZJ" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
