A system of shelter-wood and selection management prevailed in the period of Austro-Hungary and Italy, but in the eighties of the last century, group succession management was introduced. Foresters had already previously been confronted with natural disturbances that caused economic damage and affected forest management. Of abiotic disturbances, wind is the predominant influence, while of biotic disturbances the impact of herbivorous ungulate game has been most disruptive in recent decades. Za časa Avstro-Ogrske in Italije sta prevladovala zastorno in prebiralno gospodarjenje, v osemdesetih letih prejšnjega stoletja pa se je uveljavilo skupinsko postopno gospodarjenje. Gozdarji so se že od nekdaj soočali z naravnimi motnjami, ki povzročajo gospodarske škode in vplivajo na gospodarjenje z gozdovi. Od abiotskih motenj je prevladujoč vplivvetrov, od biotskih motenj pa je v zadnjih desetletjih najbolj moteč vpliv rastlinojede parkljaste divjadi. Z načrti so v vseh obdobjih načrtovali kritje potreb takratne družbe.
