The material is particularly suitable for pressure die or sand casting. However, near net shaped hot formed (extruded, forged) products for structural and wear applications would also be interesting. Therefore extrudability, as well as properties of the extruded and heat treated composite are determined and discussed. On the basis of chemical, mechanical and microstructural characterization at elevated temperatures the optimal conditions of hot extrusion were determined. The extrusion of DC cast billets was performed on a 20 MN industrial extrusion press. Samples of microstructural and mechanical investigations were then cut off and machined from extruded bars. A part of the samples was then also heat treated. The features of extrusion process as well as microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of extruded and heat treated composite are presented and discussed. The established mechanical properties of the composite show a large potential of this material in the field of civilian application. Problems containing the wear of extrusion dies, as well as poor machinability of this material are also presented"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Za osvajanje postopka toplega iztiskavanja kompozitov Al/SiC smo izbrali Duralcanov kompozit z oznako F3S.20S. Material vsebuje v kovinski osnovi (Al z 9% Si in 0,45% Mg) 20 vol.% delcev SiC in je primeren predvsem za tlačno litje in litje v pesek. Kompoziti te vrste pa bi bili lahko uporabni tudi v toplo predelanem stanju za različne strojne dele, izpostavljene obrabi ali trenju. Na osnovi, kemijske, mehanske in mikrostrukturne karakterizacije ter krivulj tečeneja pri povišanih temperaturah in različnih hitrostih deformacijesmo ugotovili optimalne razmere pri iztiskavanju kompozitov. Postopek iztiskavanja izbranega kompozita smo izvedli na industrijski iztiskalni stiskalnici 20 MN. Iz iztiskalnih palic smo izdelali preizkušance primernih oblik za nadaljnje mikrostrukturne in mehanske preiskave. Del preizkušancev smo tudi toplotno obdelali. V prispevku je predstavljen postopek iztiskavanja ter mikrostrukturne značilnosti in mehanske lastnosti kompozita po iztiskavanju in toplotni obdelavi.
