As an inventor who became famous in the realm of radiotelegraphy, Codelli travelled to German Togoland where, between the years 1911 and 1914, he was in charge of building the wireless telegraph station Kamina to help establish a better connection between Togoland and Berlin. Due to the outbreak of World War I, Codelli was forced to demolish the station, otherwise seen as one of the great technical achievements of the time.</div><div>While living in Africa, Codelli got engaged in photography and managed to take a few hundred photographs documenting not only the process of building the wireless telegraph complex in Kamina but also the life he was surrounded with – the lives of German colonists as well as the habits and traditions of natives.&nbsp;</div><div>In this collection, we present 193 of Codelli’s photographs that are preserved by the National and University Library.</div>"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"<div>Baron Anton Codelli (1875-1954) je bil veleposestnik, izumitelj in politik. Kot samouk je študiral elektrotehniko in strojništvo. Bil je navdušen nad razvojem avtomobilizma in je bil prvi lastnik avtomobila pri nas (1898), manj znano pa je, da je izumil vrsto izboljšav za udobnejšo in varnejšo vožnjo z avtomobili. Kot izumitelja je zaslovel tudi na področju radiotelegrafije. Pot med drugim vodila v kolonialni Nemški Togo. Med letoma 1911 in 1914 je tam za nemško državo zgradil radiotelegrafsko postajo Kamina, ki naj bi služila boljši povezavi Toga z Berlinom. Postajni kompleks je veljal za izjemen tehnični dosežek. Zaradi izbruha 1. svetovne vojne ga je bil Codelli žal primoran razstreliti.</div><div>V času svojega bivanja v Afriki se je Codelli posvečal tudi fotografiji. Na nekaj sto posnetkih ni dokumentiral le gradnje radiotelegrafskega kompleksa v Kamini, temveč tudi življenje, ki ga je obdajalo – tako življenje nemških kolonistov kot tudi navade in izročila domačinov.
