Although he was born poor, he became a cosmopolitan and scientist: he excelled especially in mathematics and mathematical sciences and was esteemed for his inventions in the field of physics and engagement in the field of ballistics, astronomy, etc.</div><div>In Slovenia, he is widely known for his logarithmic tables published in 1783 Logarithmische, trigonometrische, und andere zum Gebrauche der Mathematik eingerichtete Tafeln und Formeln which in addition to other contents includes Vega’s improved calculation of logarithms.&nbsp;</div><div>His fundamental works (logarithms, manuals) have been digitized between 2006 and 2008 under DIZZIS – Razvoj digitalne zbirke znanstveno-raziskovalnih in strokovnih publikacij project. The experts of the Institute for Mathematics and Physics in Ljubljana, the Slovenian Research Agency, and the National and University Library of Slovenia have contributed some recent scientific articles.</div>"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"<div>Zbirka je digitalni spomenik baronu Juriju Vegi (1754-1802), ki je s svojimi teorijami in izumi večkrat pomembno vplival na tok svetovne zgodovine. Rojen je bil na revnem slovenskem podeželju (Zagorica pri Dolskem), postal pa je svetovljan in znanstvenik. Odlikoval se je predvsem v matematičnih vedah, a se je udejstvoval tudi na področju fizike, astronomije in balistike. V Sloveniji je širše poznan po l. 1783 izdanem logaritmovniku, ki poleg drugih vsebin prinaša predvsem Vegove izboljšave za računanje logaritmov. Logaritemske tablice so ostale v uporabi dve stoletji.&nbsp;</div><div>Temeljna dela, ki so objavljena v zbirki, so rezultat digitalizacije v okviru CRP projekta DIZZIS – Razvoj digitalne zbirke znanstveno-raziskovalnih in strokovnih publikacij (2006-2008). Za nekaj novejših znanstvenih prispevkov, ki so tudi vključena vanjo, pa gre zahvala zlasti strokovnjakom Inštituta za matematiko in fiziko v Ljubljani, Agenciji za raziskovalno dejavnost Republike Slovenije in NUK.
