OB TEDNU... Svoboda mora preiti v napad. Ameriški Slovenci torej nimajo zaupanja v predsednike, tajnike in blagajnike svojih podpornih organizacij, katerim so dali neomejeno zaupnico s tem, da so jim z njihovo izvolitvijo v urade izročili administracijo svojega premoženja? Ti dve ustanovi sta: duhovniška in socialistična. . . Ljubezenske zgodbe in drame v takih časih! .. . Ko so ljubezenske zgodbe, napisane pred tisoč leti še vedno enako aktu-jalne koč tedaj, ko so bile napi-! sane, dočim je marsikatera dru-stvar v morda prav kratki ;dobi izgubila, čeprav morda le ; začasno, vso nekdanjo aktualnost . . . X. Y. Crusaders Clee club, Vadnalovi, Josie Lausche-Welf in Mary U-dovič, Kovačič radio kvartet, Pevski zbor Jadran, Frank Slej-ko ml., violin solo in Mrs. F. Slejko-Milavec piano solo, in kot govornik pa nastopi s kratkim govorom naš županski kandidat Mr. Lausche. — Hvala vam vsem! JEven 10 cents a day and a dollar on your birthday will mount up in one year to $37.50, the purphase price of a $50 Defense Bond. Bigger savings buy big-ger bonds. Veselični odhor OUR OWN LITTLE THEATRES One of the most remarkable phenomena in America during recent years has-been the revival of the legitimate theater as contrasted with the movies, which at one time were supposed to have rung the death-knell of the stage. Much credit for this goes to the Little Theater movement, which is growing by leaps and bounds all over the country. Some time ago, Windsor French writing in the Cleveland Press from Williamstown, Mass., put it this way: "It occurs to me that while the movies seems to be sinking deeper and deeper into despair, the theater is continually gaining in strength. Look at the records. All spring and summer Hollywood hasn't sent us a half a dozen films of any real distinction or merit... On the other hand, in New England alone, anywhere you look, the summer has been frantic with Broadway's children, and indeed sometimes Hollywood's, busily acting behind the footlights . . . "Unknown eager youngsters have sat down at the boarding house dinner tables with the recognized great and they have all had the time of their lives . . . The amazing thing, however, is that these youngsters are not nearly as beglamoured by Hollywood as they are stage struck." Did it ever occur to you that our own Slovene community here in Cleveland is very fortunate in having fine National Homes with well-equipped stages, the largest of them on St. Clair Ave., which, now that the old timers are gradually retiring, offer a wonderful opportunity to the young generation to show its talents in things dramatic? Tomorrow, the Cankar Players are opening the season with the presentation of a three-act play, "The Son." A good propor tion of the cast is comprised of American-born young Slovenes Latter in the season a play in English will be given by the group. The dramatic clubs founded by our older folks are a good basis on which to build, and the new generation will do well to continue with the good work and thereby enrich t}ie cultural life of the community. These are our own Little Theaters. Give them your support, and if you feel the urge—join them! The public will also be entertained by the excellent Vadnal ; musicians and singers, the Juvenile Chorus of the Slovene Workmen's Home, Modern Crusaders Glee Club, the Jadran Chorus, by the young dancer, Miss Zalar, and a popular men's quartet. What a day! After a somewhat wavering awakening I decided not to swallow my tooth brush bristles this time. Then I slowly got dressed and still being in a daze I dropped into the nearest chair at the breakfast table and downed some food. I hesitate to mention the fact that I squirted some grapefruit juice into mom's eyes. Mom is thoroughly disgusted with the person in my shoes! Asked me to slowly count to ten to see if I'm awake as yet—reach five and she interrupts to tell me. to scream instead. Gosh! was my dignity ruffled! Two hours later I was sitting in an nucomfort-able chair listening to a lecture. Can't figure out whether the orator was talking about beer in Germany or calves in America. Then in the evening I afrf tended a shindig and let everyone trot on my dainty (?) toes. Had a tussle with an undernourished dog on the way as an alacrity of fandango threw me almost against a post. Almost lost my sense of balance, but' not quite, so here I am again to bother a few minutes of your time... Ho! Hum! Well, well, Andy Sila, president of the Strugglers, is back in circulation again. Public housing is contributing to the social and economic health of our urban communities; it is also contributing to the beauty of the city, substituting simple, well-designed homes and green lawns for disorder and dirt. Therefore, the Cleveland Museum of Art has brought to Cleveland a housing exhibit which will be at the Museum through November 9th Silver anniversaries always mean celebrations, so we too, of the St. Clair Grove 98, Supreme Forest Woodmen Circle, plan to celebrate our 25th anniversary in a triumphant manner at the Slovenian National Home, Saturday evening, November 1st. The evening will begin at 6:30 p. m. with a chicken supper to be served in the annex and a short memorial service in honor of those who have passed before us. This will be followed by dancing which is to begin at 8 p. m. to the captivating rhythms of Johnny Pecon and his orchestra.
