Oba sva še daleč
Vi pa se ne dajajte klicati z imenom učenik ... tudi ne kličite nikogar na zemlji oče ... tudi se ne imenujte vodniki. Jezusu ni do odpravljanja imen in naslovov. Želi pa odpravljati razlike, ki jih imena in naslovi med ljudi vnašajo. Ko nekaj postaneš, kaj hitro dvigneš glavo.
Jezus bi rad, da tega med kristjani ne bi bilo ali vsaj, da bi tega bilo čim manj. Kljub vsem razlikam, službam, naslovom in položajem naj bi ohranili med seboj enakost. Če pa kdo že ima višjo službo in pomembnejši položaj, naj ga nima zase, temveč za druge: »Kdor med vami je največji, bodi vaš strežnik.« Razlog za to pa je, ker je resnično le eden naš pravi Oče, pravi Voditelj in pravi Učenik, vsi mi pa smo med seboj bratje.
K svetniškemu redovniku je prišel mladenič in ga prosil za spoved. Naštel mu je mnoge podlosti, ki jih je storil. Potem je dodal: Pater, slišali ste, kakšen sem. Sram meje pred sabo, pred vami in pred ljudmi. Zavedam se, da to, kar sem počel, ni bilo prav. Velik grešnik sem. O vas pa ljudje govorijo samo dobro. Pravijo, da ste svetnik. Kako ste lahko ponosni na sebe, posebno še, kadar imate pred sabo takšnega pokvarjenca, kot sem jaz.
Redovnik pa se je nasmehnil in odgovoril: Kar veš ti o meni, je malo, in kar si mi povedal o sebi, je malo. Edini Bog ve, kaj si ti in kaj sem jaz. Priznajva, prijatelj, da sva pred njim oba majhna in da imava do njega oba še zelo zelo daleč.

NEW ROMAN MISSAL - No 2
The words to the Glory to God (Gloria) have been significantly altered in English in order to accurately express the Latin text. Before pointing out the changes, it will be helpful to know a bit more about the translation process which took place prior to 1970. The English-speaking Bishops through their international commission (ICEL) worked closely with an ecumenical body, the International Consultation on English Texts (ICET), in order to develop common English liturgical texts which could be used in all the major Christian denominations. As a result, some of the translations were less than accurate, but appealing to all.
The first change we notice in the Glory to God is in the first two lines, which have frequently been used as a sung refrain. The new words are:
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to people of good will.
The Latin text reads:
Gloria in excelsis Deo
et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis.
The words, bonae voluntatis, were omitted in the previous English translation.
The next section of the Glory to God has greatly changed to include every word that is found in the Latin text: We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.
The present English translation abbreviated this text to express the general ideas, but did not faithfully translate the text in its entirety. The result of the new translation is a longer and more complete text.
However, it poses challenges for musical settings. There are far too many words to be sung using the existing melodies. For this reason, all parishes will be engaged in learning a new musical setting of the Glory to God.

BANKET SLOVENSKO-KANADSKE FONDACIJE
V soboto, 22. oktobra je župnija sv. Gregorija Velikega v Hamiltonu gostila Slovensko-Kanadsko Štipendijsko fondacijo. Glavni govornik na banketu je bil g. Tony Horvat, ki je poudaril, kaj pomeni biti Slovenec v Kanadi in kako naj bodo tudi mladi ponosni na svoje slovenske korenine in naj to tudi cenijo in spoštujejo. Obenem pa si prizadevajo za ohranjevanje te kulture.
Bursaries ($750) so prejeli: Daniel Armstrong, Katarina Doma, Kristy Kastelic, Robert Malaguti, Armanda McSkimming, Christopher Nedelko
Scholarships ($1500): Raymond Dykstra, Danielle Horvat, Mateja Mihlelčič, Olivia Petrič.
Sprejeli so novo članico Mariane Mallia, Mary Genticore pa se je upokojila.
Hvala kuharicam v kuhinji za dobro kosilo in mladim za strežbo, ansamblu Brajda za dobro glasbeno razpoloženje, članom odbora in župnijskemu svetu za organizacijo in pripravo dvorane.

It was the mid 1960s - the era of The Beatles - and a young woman waited nervously at Archbishop's House, Westminster, to meet with Cardinal John Heenan. Edwina Gateley had recently returned to Britain from teaching in Uganda and felt a calling to start up a volunteer missionary group that would send other lay people overseas to work as missionaries. At that time it was only religious congregations that did this. When she was called in she felt a little intimidated, but she shared her idea. The cardinal listened with interest but was cautious. He warned her gently that she had no authority to start a new movement for laity in the Church, and she left feeling dejected. At that time passive obedience and reception of the sacraments were generally accepted by most lay people as what being church was all about.
Edwina returned to Africa, but the dream would not die. Within a few years she was back in London, and the Missionaries of Africa provided accommodation for training courses to start in 1969. The Volunteer Missionary Movement, or VMM, was founded. The cardinal did eventually bless the work and the VMM emerged as a vibrant new church movement. More than 2,500 lay volunteers since then have been on cross-cultural mission in Africa, Latin America and Asia, supporting poor communities and sharing their skills. "We who have received the love of Christ through the Spirit cannot contain it," Edwina wrote, "it must reach out to others, spilling out and touching the world in which we live."
Gospel Teaching
Today's Gospel tells us that authorities - including religious authorities - must be respected but also challenged when their practice is out of line with their teaching. Jesus particularly warns religious leaders that being conscientious and meticulous about trivial things may prevent them from allowing God's love to flow out of their lives in gracious acts and deeds, and hinder them from recognising that everyone has a valuable contribution to make to their communities.
Yet the failure of others is not what is most important. Jesus is concerned that his disciples look at themselves and ask about their own failures. He holds up the scribes and Pharisees as a kind of mirror in which they may see their own weaknesses. The kingdom that Jesus announces points them to something greater than themselves, and greater than structures that have been built by humans. The kingdom refers to the rule of God in hearts and relationships. Equality and loving relationships characterise the new age that Jesus has initiated among us.
Jesus points out that all people are called to be listeners to God's message. That listening is something that we are to do together, regardless of status. The way of living offered by Jesus has nothing to do with arrogance and power. Rather, it is about partnership, servanthood and humility.

Folklorna skupina "VENEC" began last year with a new idea of joining communities, friends and family together for the enjoyment of folklore and fun! Many interested and enthusiastic adults came out from throughout southern Ontario to establish this group. Next practice will be Sunday October 30th at 5:00 p.m.
