»Čas se je dopolnil ...«
Bog pošilja preroka Jona v veliko mesto Ninive, da meščane opozori, kako je usoda mesta odvisna od njih samih: »Še štirideset dni in Ninive bodo pokončane!« kliče prerok. S tem prepričuje Ninivljane in vse nas, kako zakonov ne smemo prestopati, če nočemo, da nas ti isti zakoni potem ne strejo. Čisto gotovo početje milijonov ljudi po svetu pomeni grožnjo temeljem človeka vredne-ga življenja. Zato mora prihajati do velikih in usodnih lomov. A kdo si upa reči, da ni dodal nobenega svojega zrna zla v to splošno zmešnjavo? Besedilo kratko pravi za takratne ljudi velikega mesta: »Ninivljani so verovali Bogu.« Zamislili so se ob Jonovih opozorilih. Dokazov za možnost propada je bilo dovolj. Zato so skušali storiti, kar so mogli, in opomin vzeli zares: «Razglasili so post in se oblekli vsi ... v spokorno obleko«. Čutili so: nekaj je treba ukreniti, samo se ne bo uredilo. »Ko je Gospod videl, kako si prizadevajo, da zapuste svojo hudobno pot,« ni izvršil grožnje o pokončanju mesta. Usoda sveta je odvisna od malih naših korakov, kot pravi kitajski pregovor, da se pot 1000 kilometrov začenja s prvim korakom.
Sv. Pavel v 2. berilu ubira nekoliko drugačno pot ali misel: »To vam pišem, bratje, čas je kratek«. Četudi bi bilo vse v redu, čas teče in vsakomur izmed nas se bliža konec življenja. Bliža se tudi konec človeštva. Zato je treba prav ta čas, ki ga še imamo, živeti čim bolj polno, čim bolj odgovorno.
V evangeliju slišimo, kako je Janez Krstnik končal svoje javno življenje in pripravo poti Odrešeniku. »Potem,« pravi evangelist Marko, »ko so Janeza vrgli v ječo, je prišel Jezus v Galilejo in je oznanjal blagovest o Bogu.» In Jezus je začel oznanjevanje z istimi besedami, s katerimi je začel tudi Janez: »Spreobrnite se in verjemite evangeliju!« Usoda sveta je torej res odvisna od našega spreobračanja, od našega prisluškovanja Kristusovi besedi o pravem človeškem življenju, evangeliju. V tem nenehnem odpiranju božji besedi in znakom časa ter prilikam, ki močno govorijo, je pravzaprav božje kraljestvo: »Čas se je dopolnil in božje kraljestvo se je približalo«.
MULTIKULTURALNA MAŠA
V nedeljo, 18. januarja 2015 je tudi naša župnija sodelovala pri multikulturalni maši. Naš zbor je na koru zapel Psalm, Svet, Kristnost vere, Amen pred očenašem, Jagnje božje in vodil zadnjo angleško pesem Alleluia! Raise the Gospel. Carl Vegelj je igral na orgle. Cerkev se je napolnila s člani različnih narodnosti, nekateri oblečeni v narodna oblačila. Škof Daniel Mihem in nekaj duhovnikov je bilo pri oltarju. Različni deli maše: branja, prošnje so bile v različnih jezikih, vsi pa so imeli v lepo pripravljeni knjižici angleško besedilo. Družina je ob spremljavi različnih narodnih noš prinesla darove. Po maši pa smo bili vsi povabljeni v dvorano pod cerkvijo, kjer je bil dobre pol ure kulturni program, ki so ga izvajale razne skušine, od petja do plesov in petja. Sledila pa je še pogostitev ob dobrotah, ki so jih pripevale posamezne skupnosti.
2nd Kitchen Secrets cooking session
Wow... Another great day in the Kitchen! Our 2nd Kitchen Secrets cooking session took place on Saturday January 24th, 2015 in our upper hall kitchen. Although the scheduling of this session was a little short notice, we had an overwhelming response with 17 ladies and 1 gentleman participating. At this session, we learned tricks to making "Golaž and Štruklji". It was a long day, but well worth the time. With Joža Šušteršič leading the session, we learned many different recipe variations from Vera Sample, Teresa Pučko, Aranka Dundek and Milena Krušič.
The enthusiasm was evident as everyone was eager to get hands on experience. Of course, at the end of our cooking session, we sampled our kitchen creations for a late lunch, and everything was delicious. We hope to host many more sessions like these and always welcome anyone interested. If there is enough interest, we may even hold an encore session for those unable to attend the first time. Planning A Catholic Funeral
Planning ahead for your Catholic funeral is an important step. By planning ahead, you can have peace of mind knowing that your funeral will be celebrated according to your wishes and desires as a faithful Catholic. We strongly encourage you to speak to your family about your funeral plans. Most importantly, write them down, making sure that a close relative or friend knows your wishes and has received a copy. Your loved ones can then be spared the burdens and stresses of planning during a time of grief. Both you and your loved ones can be secure in the knowledge that your intentions will be honoured.
End of life planning, whether at time of need, or when you pre-arrange, involves a number of steps. The portion of the planning specific to the funeral liturgy itself is done with the parish. When death has occurred, it is here in the selecting of readings and music, along with sharing about the life of the deceased that a meaningful interaction can occur between the Church and those who are grieving a loss. The Priest is able to minister to the immediately bereaved - helping them to see how the Church consoles them in their faith. This step of funeral liturgy planning with the parish can also provide insight as to how God's healing grace unfolds within the "Ritual Moments" throughout a Catholic funeral. With this greater comprehension, ideally families gain greater understanding as to the importance of including all of these moments in the Catholic funeral plan.

Our Catholic funeral rites unfold offering praise, worship and thanksgiving to God for the gift of a life now returned to God. In these rites we affirm and express our union with Christ in life and in death. The rites bring hope and consolation to the living and allow us to recall God's mercy and judgment, helping us to turn always to God. If unaware of these rites and their purpose, they may not be requested during funeral planning.
The Ritual Moments within a Catholic Funeral
Following death, the Church accompanies those who mourn the death of a loved one in three ritual moments of prayer for the dying and those who mourn their loss. These ritual moments express our Catholic faith about death and the promise of eternal life.
The Vigil and Related Rites. The Vigil may take place in the setting of a Liturgy of the Word or in the context of Evening Prayer. It includes readings from scripture, prayers and a time of quiet reflection. Before the Concluding Rite words may be shared in remembrance of the deceased (eulogy).
The Funeral Liturgy. The funeral liturgy is the central celebration of Catholic funeral rites. A
Funeral Mass, which like Sunday Mass, includes the Liturgy of The Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, is ordinarily celebrated in the parish church. A Funeral Outside Mass (which takes place in the
context of the Liturgy of the Word) may be chosen if the parish Priest and family judge that it may be a more suitable form of celebration. It is ordinarily celebrated in the church but may be celebrated in the home of the deceased, or in the funeral home chapel. The readings for the funeral liturgy are selected from Sacred Scripture during the planning meeting with the parish Priest, who can also assist with selecting appropriate liturgical music. Other guidance regarding the general liturgy can be discussed here as well.
During the course of the funeral liturgy we see the use of a number of meaningful symbols: the pall, holy water, a Paschal Candle and incense...all are used to express our faith in Christ's victory over sin and death by his resurrection and our hope in the promise of eternal life. Following the funeral liturgy, the funeral rites continue as the faithful join in procession to the final resting place of the deceased (unless this is to take place at a later time).
The Rite of Committal. The final act of the community of faith in caring for the body of its deceased member. In this rite is expressed the hope that the deceased awaits the glory of the resurrection and the communion that exists between the Church on earth and the Church in heaven. This rite includes a short reading from Sacred Scripture, prayers, intercessions, the committal to the final resting place (the ground, the mausoleum, or columbarium), blessing and dismissal. Please note that it is never too late for this final rite. If you are still holding onto cremated remains, you may contact your parish office or The Catholic Cemeteries to arrange for the Committal of your loved one.
On Eulogies: The Order of Christian Funerals permits someone to speak in remembrance of the deceased before the Concluding Rites of the Vigil. Additionally, individuals may be encouraged to offer reflections at the reception following the funeral liturgy. Your parish Priest will be able to assist you in choosing appropriate opportunities to recall the life of your loved one. Sharing memories, laughter and the fond recollection of life events is an important part of healing grief and can be effectively and appropriately planned for.
On Cremation and The Disposition of Cremated Remains: Since 1963, Catholics have been free to choose cremation. It remains the preference of the Church to celebrate the funeral rites with the body present, with cremation to take place afterwards. Although the preference, if this is not possible, it is permitted in the Diocese of Hamilton to celebrate funeral rites in the presence of cremated remains. Cremated remains are to have been placed in a dignified container. At the conclusion of the funeral rites, the cremated remains are to be reverently buried in a grave or placed in a mausoleum or columbarium as soon as conveniently possible. Cremated remains are not to be retained in the family home nor are they to be scattered. The practice of scattering cremated remains or keeping them at home does not display appropriate reverence for what was the temple of the Holy Spirit. Neither does dividing the remains among family members or placing portions of the remains in items of jewellery to be kept by family members show the reverence due to cremated remains. Such practices are not in keeping with our Catholic faith.

In the late 1970s English actor Alec McCowen launched a one-man show, The Gospel of Mark - a recitation by heart of the whole of Mark's Gospel. It involved a minimum of stage props: just a small table with a carafe of water in the centre, and two or three chairs. It was heard in theatres on both sides of the Atlantic. It was performed for a group of guests invited to the White House, and on another occasion for an audience of four hundred Anglican bishops.
McCowen later confessed that initially one of his great fears had been that "reciting the Gospel might be a dull exercise" and that he "might have to manufacture energy" as he went along. He soon discovered that the real difficulty was finding the
energy to cope with the fast-moving story of Mark's Gospel. In fact, he had to admit, "I was thrilled beyond measure. This was the greatest script I had ever found." It will be excerpts from this "greatest script", the Gospel of Mark, that we shall be listening to on most of the Sundays throughout the coming year.
Gospel Teaching
Today we pick up the story at the start of Jesus' public ministry. John the Baptist has just been arrested: is Mark hinting at what will happen to Jesus? It must have taken courage for Jesus to come back to the very area where John had preached and been apprehended. But he does come, fearlessly, to proclaim "the Good News from God". "The time has come," he says - God's appointed time, the time the prophets foretold, the time all humanity has waited for. And he continues: "the kingdom of God is close at hand" - this kingdom is not a particular territory, like the United Kingdom, but rather it's wherever God reigns. Though we still wait for this kingdom to come in all its fullness - that's why we pray each day "thy kingdom come" - already it is present in Jesus; in him God's power and love have burst into
our world. We see those who are sick healed, sinners reconciled, the Good News proclaimed to all.
Having approached us in Jesus, God now awaits our response. "Repent," Jesus cries, "and believe the Good News." He calls us to repent, to have a change of mind and heart, to see things differently and so to believe, to put all our trust in him.
Today's Gospel gives us not only Jesus' first recorded words in his public ministry but also his first recorded deeds. Walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he sees two young brothers casting their nets into the water and, a little further on, two more fishermen brothers mending their nets after a night at sea. Taking the initiative, he invites them, "Follow me and I will make you into fishers of men." And they respond. Maybe they had met him before and were already deeply impressed. In any event they follow him without hesitation, leaving behind nets, boats and father. Their actions are a declaration that there is nothing to compare with being Jesus' disciple; he is worth following, no matter what the cost.
Application
Alec McCowen wrote: "It is impossible to study St Mark carefully and not know... that something amazing happened in Galilee two thousand years ago." But amazing things are still happening today. Jesus continues to call people as truly as he once called Peter and Andrew, James and John. At our baptism he called us, called us by name, called us to be his disciples. But it was not a once-and-for-all call: it's a call renewed each day, a call renewed today at this Mass. It doesn't mean that Jesus wants to take us out of this world or away from our families, but he knows how easily we can become engrossed in what this world has to offer, how easily we can confuse a kingdom, and even a salvation, of our own making with the incredible blessings that he has to offer.
So he wants us to look again at the direction of our lives and be ready to repent, to make adjustments, even radical ones, if necessary. Above all, he wants us to deepen our faith in the Good News, wants us to recognise that the Gospel of Mark, just like the other three Gospels, is the story of a God who cherishes us dearly, and loves us beyond our imagining with a love that will never end.

V torek je bilo v naši hiši precej živahno. V cerkvi so: Pavel in Jožica Novak, Olga Glavač, Gizela Hauzar, Max Pavlič. Pospravljali jaslice in b ožične okraske. V kleti župnišča so članice KŽZ že začele z »izdelavo« rezancev. Najprej pa je bilo potrebno zamesiti testo. Trije so se »matrali« nazadje je še mešalnik odpovedal. Prša Ignac je rešil naše članice in našel mojstra, ki je počeni del zavaril. V spodnji dvorani pa so mojstri popravljali ležaje ventilatorja za spodnjo dvorano. Po 40 letih so ležaji dotrajali in jih je bilo potrebno zamenjat. - Hvala vsem, ki ste te dni pomagali.

Oboje bomo praznovali v soboto, 14. februarja 2015, začenši ob 6:00 p.m. v zgornji župnijski dvorani.
