Slovenia Draws Journalists Back Home For years, emigrant journalists have been invited to attend a seminar in their native country, Slovenia, organized by the Foreign Ministry and the government PR and Media Office. Such working meetings take place every two or three years. The latest was attended by 14 reporters from the United States, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Sweden, Bosnia-Herzigovina and Serbia-Montenegro. The journalists who often have some difficulties with their mother tongue, were able to brush up on their writing skills and do away with errors they make as they report in the Slovenian language. They also visited media outlets and institutions through which they want to establish closer contacts with Slovenia and Slovenian ethnic minorities in Austria and Hungary. The response of the participating journalists to the seminar was good. They are delighted at the information they have gotten and the contacts they make. Stane Kranjc, the chairman of the Canadian Slovenian Historical Society, who has been living in Toronto for 50 years, says he ap- preciates such links between his native country and emigrants. He would like to see emigrant journalists work more closely with the Slovenian media. Katarina Persic has been preparing a Slovenian youth radio program in Melbourne on a voluntary basis for a decade. Musicologist and arts manager by profession, she produces radio programs for young people together with her coworkers. She is using the opportunity of her visit to Slovenia to expand music archives. In her opinion the Slovenian government has only now become aware of the importance of ties with Slovenian emigrants. The most essential outcome of the seminar is the impetus and energy that the participants will take back with them as they return to their homes, as well as the ties they established or boosted in Slovenia. In attendance from the Greater Cleveland area Tony Ovsenik of “The Slovenian Hour” heard on 50,000 watts WCPN Cleveland Public Radio 90.3 FM on Saturdays 9-10 p.m. —Slovenia News Sister Albina OP, leader of tour group of Clevelanders, center, is pictured on July 7, 1980 with her fellow pilgrims at Cap-de-la-Madeleine in Quebec, Canada. (Sub-title: Communion by the numbers !) Every day we live by the numbers and every facet of our lives appears to be governed by the numbers. On 24/7 basis, one has to remember the addresses, social security numbers, telephone numbers, sizes, stock values, check balances, etc. I hate numbers! It’s not surprising that the Secretariat for the Liturgy of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Inc. came up with an eight-step process for reception of Holy Communion. Now, if you are a Catholic, you have to remember the 8 steps, namely: “#1 Form a procession, # 2 Approach the minister; #3 Come to a complete stop; U 4 Bow the head in reverence; 4 5 Minister says “Body of Christ”, # 6 Communicant says Amen : # 7 Minister offers the sacrament to the communicant; # 8 Communicant steps slightly to the side and reverently consumes the Body of Christ.” Yours truly is not trying to make a mockery of these directions, but they remind me of what Bob Hope, who became a devout Catholic, would say if he were alive. It would remind him of giving directions to someone that has never been to a fast- food restaurant drive-through, namely: U 1 Get in the line with your car; # 2 Approach the speaker where you place the order; # 3 Come to a complete STOP; # 4 Respectfully place the order; # 5 The fast-food restaurant employee tells you what ydu owe; 4 6 Customer says thank you; # 7 Restaurant employee gives you the ordered food; # 8 You pull your-cat away from the pickup-window and start eating. 3' L r' What about the “purificator” mentioned in the second set of instructions regarding “if the communicant wishes to receive the Blood of Christ”? Use the napkins that come in your bag of munchies. Mea Culpa! •> Life in the Refugee Camps . ... •• • • \ < by ANTON ŽAKELJ translated and edited by JOHN ŽAKELJ Friday, Oct. 17,1947 At 5 a.m., I left on a trip to Wolfberg without the permission we are required to obtain for longer trips. I sold 861 shillings worth of lace to Mr. Offner, and got orders for 6,000 shillings roore. They gave me 6,000 meters of good quality thread so we can make more lace. I took the train back to Weisskirchen and walked to the camp from there. I didn’t get into trouble for traveling without permission. It was a good day. Saturday, Oct. 18, 1947 Another wedding today -Bore Erman and Ema Dobrovsek. I will take Er-H^an’s place in the camp offices while they go on a trip for the coming week. Monday, Oct. 20, 1947 This afternoon, I paid our lacemakers 9,323 shillings in Wages, and I collected 340 shillings for a wedding gift for Bore. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1947 I mailed 1,700 shillings Worth of lace to fill part of the order from Offner’s, and Ser>t 2,800 meters of thread to Marica in Spittal so her Pacemakers can make more lace. We don’t have enough 'acemakers in our camp. We received letters from Prezelj and others in Canada - they are very satisfied. Mici was taken to the hospital again because of excessive bleeding. (After that childbirth, Mici continued to have problems with bleeding for the rest of her life.) Wednesday, Oct. 22,1947 Cilka and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. A year ago, we didn’t think we would still be here. Saturday, Oct. 25,1947 I bought 200 pounds of sugar beets for me and Cilka. We cleaned them all, then Močnik cut them up with his special tool. Then we stayed up until 12:30 a.m. helping Janko and Pavle with the 400 pounds they bought. Monday, Oct. 27,1947 I got up at midnight last night to cook sugar beets. The work is hard and messy. People are getting tired and irritable. The beets stick to the bottom of the pot and the wood fire has to be stoked continuously. After 14 hours of Cooking, the syrup is still too watery. Tuesday, Oct. 28,1947 At 6:30 a.m., we went to a Mass for my brother Stanko, who is still in prison in Yugoslavia. Then I went back to cooking the beet syrup. We made 12 liters, which we will be able to use instead of sugar, which is very hard to get. Saturday, Nov. 1,1947 Today is All Saints Day. This afternoon, we visited Mici Erznožnik in the hospital again, then we stepped at an inn and drank cider. In the evening Cilka and I went to see a movie “Nicolo Paganini.” We enjoyed the beautiful music. It’s 10 years since we first fell in love. Sunday, Nov. 2,1947 Filip Orlov hanged himself last night. When I saw him in the camp yesterday,, he said, “My days are numbered,” but I didn’t take him seriously. He was a Russian who had fled from Russia to Ljubljana in 1920 and had become fluent in Slovenian. He was a good teacher of Russian and was studying English. He was sick and probably feeling hopeless about his future. The weather today was unusually beautiful. This afternoon, we visited Mici in the hospital, then we went to the cemetery chapel next to the graves of Slovenians who were executed when they refused to fight for the Austrian emperor in 1917. We listened to a sermon and singing. At the close, the choir sang, “Hear us, O Lord.” Back in our room, Mire, who is usually not very religious, suggested that we pray all 3 decades of the rosary, which we did. If you recall they were the stoves with the high legs and us kids used to play “hide and seek” and hide under the stove. Those ranges were all built, at table high height with the oven on top on the right side and below it was the broiler Surprising to say, one can take a stroll down East 185th and there is an appliance store there that has those stoves on display to show folks what old stoves looked like. It may be hard for you to believe, but when you look at the stars that shine at night and the sun that shines by day, you are looking at the same kinds of objects. The sun is really a star. In fact, it's the nearest star to earth. Life as we know it depends on the sun. Without the sun’s heat, life could not have started on earth. Without sunlight, there would be no green plants, no animals, no human beings. The sun is 93,000,000 miles from earth. The volume, or bulk, of the sun is about 1,300,000 times bigger than the earth. Yet an interesting thing about the sun is that it is not a solid body like the earth. Here is how we know this: The temperature on the surface of the sun is about 11,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This is hot enough to change any metal or rock into a gas, so the sun must be a globe of gas. Years ago, scientists believed that the reason the sun shone, or gave off light and heat, was that it was burning. But the sun has been hot for hundreds of millions of years, and nothing could remain burning for that long. Today scientists believe that the heat of the sun is the result of a process similar to what takes place in an atom bomb. The sun changes matter into energy. This is different from -burning. Burning changes matter from one form to another. But when matter is changed into energy, very little matter is needed to produce a tremendous amount of energy. One ounce of matter could produce enough energy to melt more than a ' million tons of rock. So if science is right, the sun keeps shining because it is constantly changing matter into energy. And just one percent of the sun’s mass would provide enough energy to keep it hot for 150 billion years. Kind words make good echoes. 1 When your work speaks for itself, don’t interrupt Happy Thanksgiving to AH American Slovenians in the United States Republika Slovenija - The Republic of Slovenia Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Davorin Kračun, Ambassador 1525 New Hampshire Ave., N.W. Art, the carpenter, said they would work just fine. They were the right height and suggested they be sawed in two and placed side by side along the length of the bar, but said since it was hard wood, he would split them providing I pay for a special saw blade that was capable of sawing them in two. It worked, but needless to say, the strain that the saw was sunder, we blew many a fuse throughout the house, but the logs did get split. Soon, the bar was in place, but in the days that followed, we noticed that when the sliding door in back of the bar was left open, the logs shrunk and the logs got narrower and Art suggested that we nail brown masonite board inside to stop the light from showing, and it worked out well. Soon the wet bar was put in, then the back bar and the last was the floor. We picked a brown marbleized tile for the floor and Art knew how to lay tile. The one night he laid down the adhesive and said the next night he would start laying the tile. He did just that and got about half done when he left for the night. Dad thought he would help him out and decided to lay some of the tile himself, figuring any nit wit could lay tie. The next day Art came to continue, and blew his fuse and yelled at dad saying he should not have laid the tile for he did not lay it properly with all the grain running the same way. It was screwed up. Dad could not see it, but Art and I did and could easily tell which tile dad laid. Needless to say. Art had to rip up all the tile dad laid and re-did it and said, “Jim, please don’t help any more.” Well, the recreation room was done within a week before Christmas and all I had to do was a little bit more varnishing. We were really proud of that recreation room, for it was a great job done by the carpenter with ideas from dad as well as myself. It takes nearly 2,000 coffee cherries to provide enough beans for a pound of roasted coffee. Polka Gift Shop News Goes without saying, another bar like that could not be found. Who can say they have a bar made from a bowling alley flooring and wood logs from the basket factory. Well, I am not going to go on with the story for at this point, is where tragedy came into place, for from that point on up, things went downhill, but let’s leave that for next week. Not time to bring out the Kleenex just yet. Time to close and say “Good Night,” and whatever you do, don’t cough or you are out of here. May the good Lord bless and watch over all of you and keep you in good health, and may all of you have a good friend. They premiered the album “Music Box Polkas” with the Almars orchestra, at the Slovenian Society Home in Euclid. A reception was held for DJs, and the public was invited to a live performance of the album, and entertainment by two bands. The event attracted 700 polka fans. The gathering of nearly 100 members was held in the Euclid City Council Chambers. The Lifetime Achievement nominations always top the list of polka excitement, and for promotional needs and Awards Show preparation, the winners’ names in this category are made public during this previev' meeting. The criteria for this Lifetime Achievement Award includes having made invaluable contributions to the promulgation, promotion, and preservation of the Slovenian culture and music, and having made a major identifiable impact. Voting members have awarded the 2003 Lifetime Achievement Award to Sam Pugliano of Western Pennsylvania and retired bandleader and accordionist Roman Possedi of Las Vegas. Roman Possedi was an important factor in Cleve-land-style polka music in Chicago for more than 25 years, forming his first polka band in 1946. His early years were spent playing at the “Club Irene” and the famous “Baby Doll Polka Club.” His popularity led to appearances throughout Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Ohio. Roman recorded the first of several albums in 1963, culminating with “Roman Possedi’s 45th Anniversary” album in 1992. Roman appeared at numerous polka festivals across the country and hosted several polka tours including 14 to Slovenia, some cruises, and trips to Hawaii. He was the accompanist for the Slovenian Radio Club Dancers of Chicago for 15 years and also had a weekly Slovenian radio program in LaGrange, Illinois. Roman retired from his music and moved to Las Vegas where he has lived for the past 12 years. By the way, his name may sound Italian, but both of Roman’s parents were of Slovenian descent. Sam Pugliano, on the other hand, is our first inductee of Italian descent. Sam is currently celebrating 39 years as the host of his own weekly polka radio show in the greater Pittsburgh area, and has been the leader and accordionist of his own band for 51 years. One of the most treasured highlights of his career came in 1962 when he was crowned Western Pennsylvania’s “Polka King.” Sam was elected to the Polka Hall of Fame Trustees Honor Roll in 1990, named the UMPAPA Man of the Year in 1994, and inducted into the Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame in 1995. He has recorded seven albums, and five cassettes. Pj3 For the first time, this year’s Greatest All-Time Cleveland-Style Hit Songs are two waltzes, Simcic’s Waltz and the Slovenian folksong, Zaplula. “Simcic’s Waltz” was first recorded by Clevelander Don Pecek who is the son of the late vocalist Nettie Pecek (sister of Johnny Pecon). “Zaplula je Barcica Moja” translates from Slovenian as “My Boat Has Sailed Away.” The most famous rendition of this song is the recording by Hall of Famer Eddie Kenik with the Eddie Buehner band. Both songs are also in the repertoire of almost every button accordion group. The very talented George Staiduhar treated attendees at the Preview Meeting to a live performance of each song, along with Fred Ziwich. Several of the 2003 Award nominees were in attendance. This year’s categories include Cultural/-Heritage, Support/Promotion, Best Button Box Group, Best Button Box Individual, Best Vocalist, Musician of the Year, Sidemen of the Year, Band of the Year, and Recording of the Year. The winners will be announced during the spectacular Awards Show XVI. This year’s Trustees Honor Roll recipients are: John Habat: founding trustee of the Polka Hall of Fame, who served for 12 years as tour guide and curator of the museum. He was also honored as “Slovenian Man of the Year” in Cleveland. Don Kotnik: deceased accordionist and bandleader, from the Cleveland area. He recorded and wrote several polkas. Don Krance: accordion maker, tuner, and the founder of the Euclid Chromatic Accordion Club. Though he currently resides in Euclid, Ohio, Don was bom in Pennsylvania. Benzy Rathbone: de- ceased bandleader, accordionist, and accomplished button-box performer from Pennsylvania. Benzy recorded with several polka bands including his own. His family is currently working on a memorial album. Eddie Vallus: for 50 years has been a bandleader and accordionist in the Youngstown area, and has composed and recorded many songs. Paul Wilcox: television host of the “Polka Varieties Show” broadcast in Cleve- land every Sunday for 27 years and tour host with Frankie Yankovic for over 60 tours. Paul also hosted his own polka radio programs for 15 years, and currently resides in Florida. The 2003 Awards Show will be under the direction of musician Phil Smick, producer of several previous programs. Once again the show will be held in the Euclid Senior High School auditorium. Show time is 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22. The "Quarterly" Jim’s Journal By Jim Debevec I see that Ray Mlakar requests another column. His wish is my command. A lot of things puzzle me. For instance, last summer I spoke with John Mercina at St. Vitus summer picnic at Slovenska Pristava. He whispered confidentially in my ear, “When you hear hoof-beats, think of them as from horses and not zebras.” “Okay,” I said and walked away looking profound. I though, “What the hell is he talking about?” All night long, all day long, all week long, all month long I have been contemplating it and have failed to arrive at a solution. It’s almost as frustrating as trying to figure out the answers to Phil Hrvatin’s riddles. * Most every business in America is holding the line on what they charge for goods. Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan is even worried we might accidentally fall into deflation where prices fall, so he kept overnight federal deposits at 1%, the lowest rate in 40 years. But education is not paying attention. A few weeks ago the state (of Ohio) said they will no longer take advance payment for tuition because college costs are rising at 10% a year and the most they can earn on investments is 4%. With all the millions and now hundreds of millions of dollars successful businesspersons are donating to universities, how come they keep raising tuition? Can’t figure it out. * Am reading “An Army at Dawn,” a history of America entering World War II. A small portion of the German Army was in Africa. United States military advisors and generals said America should avoid fighting in Africa because it was unnecessary. But why did President Franklin D. Roosevelt, as Commander and Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces send our troops to northern Africa in defiance of his knowledge- able leaders? Why did President Bush send his troops to Iraq when the terrorists are in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Saudia Arabia? At the beginning of World War II, all the allied commanders agreed on one thing. They would only accept unconditional surrender. Did anyone hear of the Arab surrender? As a matter of fact, they have intensified hostilities against the Allies. How come we (us taxpayers) are paying $71.8 billion for 278 F-22 airplanes or $258 million per plane? Do you know what the F-22 fighter is used for? I do. It is designed for air-to-air combat. Remember watching “Top Gun” with Tom Cruise? They were involved in aerial dogfights. But that was during the time when Russia was our enemy. Now they are our (supposed) friend. So why are we wasting so much money constructing 278 fighters that we will never need? Furthermore, why are we going to spend $87 BILLION on top of the $100 BILLION we already spent to rebuild Iraq which is an Arab country that probably will never be our friend? Was reading an article about Robert Rubin in Monday’s Financial Times of London. He was a key adviser to Bill Clinton’s economic policy. President Clinton wanted to balance the budget and bring down unemployment, which he did from 7% to 4%. I think John Snow’s job under President Bush is to give us a snow job. Thirty years ago people were saving 3.5% of their income. Today some are saving ‘/2% or going further into debt. Workers being in debt during prosperous times is unheard of. Americans are taking their cue from government which is 30 TRILLION in red ink. You will have to pay for it, your children will have to pay for it, and your grandchildren will have to pay for it. Every depression in history has been the result of excessive debt. The government is propping up the economy by printing more worthless money and spending it on defense. We will see what happens next year. In 2005 and 2006, I think the economy will be in a deep disaster. Remember a year ago I said imposing tar- iffs on steel imports was folly? It is coming to pass, and for the very reason I said. Tuesday, foreigners announced they are going to impose their own tariffs on us, thereby increasing the cost of imported goods. ★ The movie “Secondhand Lions” earned only half a star in the Financial Times of London’s movie reviews whereas “Intolerable Cruelty” with Catherine Zeta Jones and George Clooney earned a full five stars? By the way, do you know what George Clooney’s middle name is? If you do, let me know and we’ll see how smart our readers are. K stumped the audience at the movie preview. * Who said, “An empty barrel makes the most noise?” I wish it were me; it’s very profound. Kind of reminds me of this column-Here’s a Yiddish proverb, “Don’t throw a stone into a well in which you have drunk.” Anyone knows what it means? Maybe a Slovenian proverb will help. “Save yoitf money while you’re young-It was coined by Bob Debevec. Dolgan said: “The first time I interviewed Piersall, he kept circling around me. He never stopped talking, but he never stopped circling. Finally, I asked him why he was doing that. ‘It’s the cigarette,’ he said.” Dolgan has since quit smoking. “Piersall once threw a baseball at me. He missed,” Dolgan said. Piersall thought Dolgan was too critical of him, but Dolgan said Piersall just wasn’t used to his writing style. “One time I was talking to Mickey Mantle, and Piersall was shouting from across the field, ‘He’s a ripper!’ That’s the word players used back then for a writer who criticizes.” Dolgan could “rip” eloquently in two languages. A look at his roots reveals the source of Dolgan’s melodious writing style: a musical Slovenian household. Dolgan did not learn English until he entered kindergarten at East Madison School. His mother was bom in Cleveland, but her parents never learned English. “The whole neighborhood spoke Slovenian,” he said. His father, “Big Joe,” came from the old country as an adult. “My father had been a prisoner in Siberia during World War I,” Dolgan said. “He came here in 1923 looking for gold in the streets.” There was no gold, of course, and during the Depression, the Dolgan family lived in half-a-dozen different houses between East 60th Street and Addison. But, while he never grew rich, Dolgan’s father had a gift. He could make music. “He played the piano, accordion and bass, but he could really sit down with any instrument and play, and he could sing. He was in a Slovenian choms all his life,” Dolgan said. “He was a singer, drinker and dancer. I tried to imitate him.” Dolgan admired his mother as well. “She was only 5’ 1” tall, but she ran the house. I never felt more secure than when I walked down the street with my mother,” he recalled. Neighbors would comment that young Bob seemed small, and she would say, “I will be happy if he grows up to be 5’1.” Well, Dolgan grew to ^e lanky and well over 6 feet tall. He played on East High School’s basketball team and was the first baseman on East’s city championship baseball team in 1950. He also covered sports for the school newspaper. “More inches were written about me than any other player,” he said. Of course, they were written by him. He was one of the few in his neighborhood to go to college. His pals would ask, “Why are you going to college? You’re going to work in the factory like the rest of us.” That, he said, terrified him. He graduated from John Carroll University in 1955 and landed a job with the Geneva (Ohio) Free Press as a jack-of-all trades cub reporter. Sports-writing seemed logical. “Writing was my best subject in school, and sports were my main interest.” In 1957, he sent four of his columns to Whitey Lewis, then sports editor of the Cleveland Press, and the same four columns to Plain Dealer sports editor Gordon Cobbledick. “Whitey Lewis never answered, but amazingly, Cobbledick wrote back and said he had an opening on the sports desk.” And so began a career that has spanned four decades. Bob’s wife, the former Cecilia Valencie, is a reporter for the Lake County News-Herald. Many may have heard Cecelia’s voice. She has sung with the Robert Shaw Chorale and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, and she sang five times in Carnegie Hall. Bob and Cecelia live in Willoughby Hills, Ohio. They have a son, Robert, and a daughter, Ann. From: 1999 Press Club Journalism Hall of Fame ___________tabloid newspaper Bob Dolgan was inducted into the Press Club Journalism Hall of Fame in 1999. He has written a superb book about all the sports players mentioned in this article and dozens of others. The book is titled, “Heroes, Scamps and Good Guys.” It makes an excellent gift for any sports fan. He thought the new world was connected to India and that turkeys were peacocks. He named them “tuka,” which means peacock in the tarn ilk language of India. Then the merchants who sold turkeys changed it from tamilish tuka to Hebrew tukki and the English changed it to turkey. Government Willing to Help Renault Expansion In a bid to convince the French car maker Renault to expand its production facility in Slovenia rather than elsewhere, the government said on Oct. 30 it will grant Renault 10% of the investment value, which amounts to EUR 37m. If Renault decides to manufacture its new model in Novo Mesto-based Revoz, the government is willing to contribute internationally comparable state aid in the amount of 10% of the investment, payable between 2005 and 2007, Economics Minister Tea Petrin said. Slovenia is one of the most serious candidates for a location for Renault’s new assembly plant along with Turkey and Slovakia, which the car-maker wants to launch in 2007. According to Petrin, the main advantage of Revoz is that it has been “one of the most successful and efficient facilities in the Renault Corporation.” The new plant could create 700 new jobs. Beatles Continue to Wreak Havoc In the worst attack since 1994, bark beetles have destroyed over 293,000 cubic meters of wood, mainly spruce, the Slovenian Institute of Forestry said last week. Adding that to the previous damage, cost exceeds one billion tolars (EUR 4.2m). The institute has therefore urged the Agriculture Ministry to increase funding for the extermination of bark beetles from 30 percent of the costs to 90%. Areas that have been hit worse include the entire central Slovenia, and parts of southern and eastern Slovenia. Bark beetles are one of the most feared pests in the forest industry. Adult bark beetles bore through the uuici uciiiv iu me iniiei where they channel out galleries for laying eggs. Larvae hatch in these galleries and may excavate additional channels as they feed. As bark beetles carve out galleries, they introduce blue-stain fungi. These fungi grow in the wood, interfering with the tree’s water transport system. The tree eventually dies. The write-up was apparently the collections were inflated for the $82,138.37 budget, probably because of building the new church. The collection details included the children’s collection down to the last cent. During the voyage most of their supplies were used up. They could not plant crops because it was winter. They faced hunger and disease. They also feared the natives of this new land. Of the 102 Mayflower passengers 47 of them did not survive the first winter. It was only with the help of the Wampanoag, a friendly Native American tribe that the rest of them lived. The Indians taught the settlers to hunt game, net fish, and to plant crops. The fall of 1621 brought a good harvest to Plymouth Colony. They would survive the coming winters without starving. Governor WJUiam Bradford proclaimed a three-day feast. He invited the Native Americans to join them. The four surviving women cooked for three days. Over 90 Indians showed up to join the 55 Pilgrims. The Indians brought deer meat to be made into stew, lobsters, eel, clams and fish. The women roasted turkeys. There were sweet potatoes, cranberries, dried fruit and Indian pudding made of com boiled with molasses. There may even have been popcorn balls, which had been invented by the Native Americans of that area. The joyous celebration include wrestling, races, singing and games. There was unity, friendship, and plenty of food. Thanksgiving has been celebrated for more than 375 years. It is one of the few American holidays that different ethnic groups celebrate in many of the same ways. It is a holiday that belongs as much to Native Americans as it does to the descendants of the Pilgrims. It is a day when all Americans pause to think of the jpany reasons they have to be thankful. No matter how you spend your Thanksgiving Day you help make it special. Just as you are thankful for friendship, family, help and care, others in your life are thankful for you. Happy Thanksgiving Day. A thought to remember: Life isn’t a matter of milestones, but of moments. ^ PERKIN’S RESTAURANT 22780 Shore Center Dr. Euclid, Ohio 44123 216-732-8077 Operated by Joe Foster Make the gas company wonder if you’ve moved. Vodilna kandidata sta baje bivši predsednik Janez Podobnik in pa poslanec Peter Vrisk. Nazaduje tretji kandidat Ivan Bizjak. Volilni štabi vodilnih kandidatov obiskujejo lokalne odbore stranke in iščejo podporo. V Trstu požig slovenskega mladinskega kluba “Cvetka Pečarja” V ponedeljek ponoči so neznanci vdrli v klub Cvetka Pečarja, ki stoji v neposredni soseski univerzitetnega središča in ga redno obiskujejo slovenski študentje. O Oba zakona o t. i. “izbrisanih” že nekaj časa vznemirjata slovensko javnost in delita slovensko politično prizorišče. Kategorija t. i. 4. 16) BRICKMAN & SONS FUNERAL HOME 21900 Euclid Ave. (216) 481-5277 Between Cherdon Rd. & E. 222 St. in Euclid, Ohio Novi volivci LDS in ZLSD na račun vseh davkoplačevalcev (nadaljevanje s sir. 15) ustave. V blag spomin Ob tretji obletnici naše ljube in nepozabne mame Ivanka Kete Umrla 14. novembra 2000 Tri leta so že minila, Odkar si, mama, šla od nas. A vedno lep spomin je na Te, Pogrešamo Te vsaki čas. Hvala, naša dobra mama, Vso ljubezen si nam dala, Vse moči in vse skrbi. Pri Bogu srečna Ti prebivaj, V nebesih večno srečo uživaj! Žalujoči otroci: Peter, Zinka, Marya, Florjan in Frank 7. Zato so v kategoriji t. i. Žalujoča mama Slavi, oče John, hčerki Debi in Shell! največje vladne stranke ponovno odpira to razpravo. 18) Ovacije za Dubravko Tomšič-Srebotnjak New York (Delo, 25. okt. Formirali smo štiri polke: 1. in 2. še v Sloveniji, po naredbi štaba Slovenske narodne vojske; 3. polk pod poveljstvom majorja Maksa Kunstlja, in 4. polk pod poveljstvom majorja Antona Mehleta. Jelenc in duhovnik Kranjec - ljubeznivo sprejeli in pogo-stili. 20) Misijonska srečanja in pomenki 1501. Javna občina so jima v vsej spoštljivosti in priznavanju njunega dela namenila veliko prostora. Mati Tersa in Janez Pavel II. Nekateri razredi so že tako in tako prenapolnjeni. Profesorji in učitelji morajo veliko potrpeti.
