Drago Gacnik, SDB ŽUPNIK - PASTOR NASLOV - ADDRESS 125 Centennial Pkwy N Hamilton, ON L8E 1H8 TEL.: 905-561-5971 FAX: 905-561-5109 E-MAIL gregory_sdb@ stgregoryhamilton.ca WEB PAGE www.carantha.com HALL RENTALS CELL: 905-518-6159 E-MAIL hallrental@ stgregoryhamilton.ca VESTNIK »Ljubi Gospoda, svojega Boga ...« Clovek želi biti svoboden v svojih dejanjih. Noce ponuditi seznama vrednot, ampak pripeljati cloveka k verskemu in eticnemu izvoru in bistvu. Zahtevata clovekovo srce, to je vest, dušo (življenjsko pocelo), misel in delovanje, z drugimi besedami, »samega sebe« v celoti, kar vsebuje vzporedje »z vsem srcem, z vso dušo in z vsem mišljenjem«. Prav v njej dobijo razlicni momenti bivanja smisel, veselje in vrednost. Kristus je »povzetek« in dovršitev razlicnih duhovništev: nasproti njihovi zacasnosti in prigodnosti postavlja on svojo vecnost (7, 23-25), nasproti njihovi cloveški krhkosti postalja on svojo svetost (v. 26), nasproti njihovi ponovljivosti in nezadostnosti postavlja on svojo celostnost in edinstvenost. »Kristusova duhovniška ljubezen ustvarja novo cloveštvo z novim srcem in novim bivanjem« (Cerfaux). Prim. Oznanjevalec 2003 Hvala Olgi Glavac za okrasitev cerkve. 489 | VESTNIK 2018 491 | VESTNIK 2018 493 | VESTNIK 2018 495 | VESTNIK 2018 497 | VESTNIK 2018 499 | VESTNIK 2018 501 | VESTNIK 2018 503 | VESTNIK 2018 VESTNIK 2018 | 490 VESTNIK 2018 | 492 VESTNIK 2018 | 494 VESTNIK 2018 | 496 VESTNIK 2018 | 498 VESTNIK 2018 | 500 VESTNIK 2018 | 502 Vecerja za enega Jože Ekart in Manja Vinko Nedelja, 28. oktober, 2018 župnijska dvorana sv. Gregorija Velikega Humoreska On Sunday we were entertained by G. Jože Ekart & Manja Vinko with his play Dinner for one. We started with coffee tea and light refresh-ments then gathered to watch this Slovenian skit! With approximately 100 guests in attend-ance, we were pleasantly surprised with a hu-mour and song. Even if you did not understand the play wording itself, the dramatization would have kept you entertained with laughter! At the end they also presented his book “Kje je moj mili dom”. Hopefully we can again enjoy a light hearted afternoon amongst friends sometime soon! POKOPALIŠCE SV. PETRA V LONDONU - MAVZOLEJ SV. ONE SOUL CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS The Diocese of Hamilton is conducting the One Heart, One Soul Campaign to raise money for every Parish in the Diocese and for shared ministries. Answers to a set of Fre-quently Asked Questions appear in Parish bulletins regularly. A compilation of all questions that have been published are available throughout the campaign at oneheartonesoul.ca. What are the parishes’ responsibilities in the campaign? Every Parish will first assess its needs and determine the projects to which the funds raised for the Parish will be directed. Each pastor will ap-point key volunteers who will work with the Diocese and the Steier Group to form a campaign team. That Parish team will help with campaign events and make personal visits to other parishioners to solicit gifts. Priests also will be asked to help with solicitations of some prospective donors. How will the funds that are raised be split up? This is a Parish-focused campaign, and 75 percent of the funds raised by each Parish will stay with that Parish for the goals and projects of its choos-ing. An additional 10 percent will be directed toward assisting parishes most in need of support. The remaining 15 percent will be dedicated to shared Diocesan ministries. Where will donors send their gifts, and where will the money be kept? Donors’ gifts and pledges will be held in trust for the Parish and initially kept in a dedicated Diocesan account. The Diocese will disburse the Parish-es’ funds to them after the payments have been received and the Parish is ready to undertake their projects. The campaign’s Clergy Committee has worked with the Diocese to outline when the funds will be distributed to the Parishes. Why can’t I just support my parish directly? Frankly, we hope you continue to support your Parish directly through your regular Sunday giving. This campaign is not intended to divert funds that go toward normal operating needs. The campaign is a special effort to meet needs that go beyond the routine and that can help to set up Parishes (and the Diocese) to thrive for years to come. In short, supporting this cam-paign is supporting your Parish directly – as well as other Parishes in need and various Diocesan ministries. First Reading Deuteronomy 6:2-6 Moses presents the people with the com-mandment that sums up the Law of the covenant. Second Reading Hebrews 7:23-28 Christ is the perfect high priest who re-mains for ever to intercede for all who come to God through him. Gospel Mark 12:28-34 Jesus highlights the commandment from Deuteronomy as the first of all the com-mandments, with love of neighbour as the second. There is no law greater than this. “Which is the first of all the command-ments?” Illustration Souvenir shops are a feature of every holiday destination. We like to have something to remind us of a wonderful time at the seaside or some place of beauty or historical interest. Similarly, it has become popular to leave flowers at the site of a tragedy so that we can express our sympathy or solidarity with those who have suffered. Again, as Catholics, we have any number of visible symbols that help us to connect with the realities of our faith, like the cruci-fix, a statue, a holy picture and so on. These little signs and symbols encapsulate our memories. If, however, you were to visit the home of any observant Jew, even today, you would see, attached to the doorpost, a small cylinder or box called a me- zuzah. Inside this is a small parchment scroll on which are written words from today’s first reading, “Listen, Israel: The Lord our God is the one Lord…” Today’s reading instructs us to let these words be written on our hearts. A few verses later, however, the instruction is to write them on the doorposts of our homes. These few verses are often referred to as “the Credo of Israel”, the heart of Israel’s faith. They are to be recited many times a day: on rising and on retiring; on coming into the house and going out; as part of morning and evening prayers; and they are to be diligently taught to children. Gospel Teaching It is highly likely, then, that this short scriptural prayer was part of the daily prayer of Jesus, a faith-ful Jew, and so it immediately comes to his lips when he is asked which is the first of all the com-mandments of the Law. The genius of Jesus is to link it straight away with the command from Leviticus, “You must love your neighbour as yourself.” Jesus understood that to love God with all our heart and soul, mind and strength, it is not sufficient merely to be able to recite the formula from the scriptures, even less to touch or even to wear the box contain-ing the words. Love for God has to be expressed in action towards those among whom we live. As Je-sus himself is the living sign of God’s love for us, so we are called to to be living signs revealing love for God in the mercy and compassion we have towards our neighbours. The scribe who questioned Jesus comments that this understanding of the Law is far more im-portant than any holocaust or sacrifice. This links nicely with today’s second reading from the letter to the Hebrews, where we are told that the one perfect sacrifice of Jesus does what all the sacrifices of the old Law could not do; that is, save us from our sins. The sacrifice of Jesus is the perfect act of love for God and neighbour. In his life, suffering and death, Jesus offers to God the Father that love which alone can reconcile humanity with God. His sacrifice is the per-fect act of humanity’s love for God and, at the same time, is the perfect act of love that any human being can have for their neighbour. The sacrifice of Jesus is for our salvation, the forgiveness of our sins. Application The sacrifice of Jesus is made effective for us through our sharing in the life of the Church and through our participation in the sacraments, which are our most precious souvenirs. They are the signs that not only remind us of the most important truths of our faith, they actually bring them about. When we are baptised, we enter into the grave with Jesus where our sins are washed away; then we rise to new life with Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit so that we can live with Jesus and like Jesus in our lives of love and service of the people among whom we live. In the Eucharist we participate with Jesus in that eternal offering of humanity’s love and worship of the Father; and we receive from the Father the out-pouring of his love and mercy as we receive Jesus in Holy Communion. The first commandment of the Law is to love God with all our heart and soul, mind and strength, and the second is to love our neigh-bour as ourselves. The best way for us to fulfil this command is to share in the life of the Church, espe-cially in the Eucharist.
