In ko pride obračun s temi organizacijami in gibanji — ne bodo ameriški histerlki vprašali: kdo Je res kriv in kdo ni. Mnogo nedolžnih ljudi In» trpel» zaradi svoje kratkovidnosti, ker so s«' dali porabili za štafažo in orodje zarotnikov, agentov tujih režimov. In ker Je bilo dosti de-a, dasl trdo, so svojo vztrajnost podpirali s pijačo. Svoječasno sem imel priliko pregledati investicije neke banke v«led tega, ker J« Imelo precej nalih rojakov deponiran svoj denar v njej, toda ekuiaH ao ga trumoma dvigniti (»krog 1930. Ob tej priliki sem marsikaj izvedel o investicijah. Br. Business is business. Ker niso ie vsi ljudje praktični in odkritoarčni, mora veljati to pravilo. So far so good! Glavni govornik bo predsednik gl. nadzornega odseka br. Frank Zaitz, ki je tudi dober govornik. Po programu bo ples v obeh dvoranah in igrala bosta Yankovichev in Vadna-lov orkester. Članstvo SNPJ in drugi rojaki so vabljeni na to proslavo. In pa druitvo V boj it 53 S. N. P. J.: Kaj bi bilo brez tega druitva? Mrtvilo! On prosi br. Nihče me ni pooblastil, naj to zapišem, ampak zapisal sem. You know me, Brother, I am— Frank BarbiČ, 53. Chairman Petrovich presided. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Chairman Petrovich submitted two Moody't letters, one with rofsrd to investing in Federal Savings and Loan Aaaoeiations in which they advisad against the placing of money in insured institutions, and ona in which thay list their monthly recommendations for invaating; also, Moody's bill for the services for the coming yoar was presented. A lengthy discussion followed and a motion was made and seconded that the hill be paid and that wa continue the service for another year. Brother Olip outlined the reason why we should discontinue their service by stating that we did not follow their advica on purchases nor in selling because wo hava found it profitable otherwise. We have not followed their advice on the pur« chases of FHA mortgages which investment has proved vary satisfactory from the standpoint of earnings and safety. Nor did we follow their advice on the purchase of corporate bonds. At the sama time, their explanation of inventing in insured savings and loan institutions is certainly out of the line of general trends. For renewing the service, Brother Vider explained that we made a considerable saving because we secured their information in sufficient time on exchange of the HOLC bonds. He and Brother Vogrich believe that the service was necessary for us end that the Information received enabled us to use better Judgment; it was particularly necessary for us to have Moody's information on our defaulted bonds and a periodic report of the entire investment portfolio. Brother Petrovich added that it was unwise to pay for a service $200, and then ignore the recommendations. If the Committee had followed instructions to sell bonds, we would havs lost considers bis money because in the majority of cases prices are considerably higher than when the recommendations were made. He added that we can debate and discuss each individual case at these meetings and thus set a policy which in the past has proved right in more than a majority of cases. Those voting for the motion to pay this bill and continue Moody's services were: Brothers Vlder, Vogrich and Calnkar; opposed, Brothers Petrovich, Olip, Lotrich end Zupan. The motion was dofoated. Moody's letter with regard to our holdings of Akron, Ohio, and their recommendation to sell these bonds was read and filad. An application for a 92000 loan for the recreation farm of 8NPJ lodges of Greater Cleveland was presented by Brother Petrovich and sama was taken up under investments. Protest on War Planning Board Concern is expressed by union leaders over the effect on labor relatione of poeeible Involvement of the United States in war. Both A. F. of L. and C. I. O. open an attack on the important War Resources Board which - is shaping detailed production plane for use in oaae of war. In the drafting of blue prints for industrial defense, union leaders are not participating, nor are they being consulted. Statements by William Green, preeident of the A. F. of L., and Jamee B. Carey, secretary-treasurer of the C. I. O., contain warnings that cooperation oannot be "imposed" on labor.—¿Labor Relations Reporter. KEEP AMERICA OUT OF WAR NEW YORK. N. Y.—Once agaia Europe is in flames. Once again another wholesale slaughter of mankind has begun. Imperialist antagonisms, engendered out of a decaying capitalism and aggravated by the last war, have finally burst out into another orgy of homicidal fury. Once again humanity and civilisation is being trampled under the iron heel of military dictatorships. Let's not be blinded by the glittering phrases and lying slogans propagated by those who are intent on drawing this country into WAR. This is no war for democracy or national self-determination; this is no crusade against totalitarianism. Who is the representative of democracy and freedom in this war? Is it Colonel Beck's Poland, dominated by a dictatorship as brutal and ruthless as any faeclst regime whose political repressions and anti-Semitic outrages have shocked the world? Is it the England of Chamberlain and the France of Daladier, already converted authoritarian states under the rule of military imperialist dictatorships, holding in virtual slavery hundreds of millions of people in their colonial empires? Or is it perhaps Hityer Germany that is claiming the right of national self-determination. Germany, whose bloody yoke has been forced on the unwilling people of Csechoslovakia? No, these are all cynical lies, gross deceptions practiced on the masses sent to the slaughtering field. This war is on both sides Imperialistic, as predatory a war, as ever was fought on the face of the earth. Reborn German imperialism is out to regain the losses of the last war. To revise the treaty of Versailles, to force a redistribution of the loot of imperialism. The Anglo-French allies are determined to keep the loot, the spoils of the victory of 1918, and to prevent Germany from making a grab for it. Just as Serbia and Belgium were the pretext of the last war, Poland is the pretext now of this war. In reality, it is a war ovair markets, natural resources, colonies, influence and imperialist control- It is a continuation of the War of 1918. The War of 1918 to make the world safe for democracy gave us Hitler, Mussolini and the War of 1989; the war of 1939 will drive the world to a universal totalitarian slavery and fresh series of slaughters. The steps that led America into the last war were: selling arms and war materials strictly for cash; loaned money to the Allies to enable them to buy arms and munitions; American ships transported these contraband goods; American ships ware sunk and American citisens were killed; then we went to war to safeguard our loans and avenge our dead. And at the end of the war what did we find? Hundreds of thousande dead and wounded, and many debts. These same steps must not be taken now to lead America into another world slaughter. Our great task is to Keep America Out of the War, a war which will not only leave thousands of dead and wounded, but will also mean the establishment of*an iron-clad military'dictatorship under the i "Industrial Mobilisation Plan" and similar war-time legislation. We can and we must keep out of this war. Of course, financiers and business men out for t^ir bloody profits are out propagaJMpiying apostles of another crusadeTor democracy, and trying to convince us that this war is our war. But we must be able to translate our determination into action; we can and we must defeat these forces of destruction and keep America out of war. Do not trust the pledges of promt«-.» of the administration to keep us out of war. The administration has announced that it wants to repeal the neutrality law, and sell arms for "strictly cash and carry." Bitter experience of the last war teaches us that we cannot do this out of war. Remember Wilson was reelected P^ the slogan "He kept u, •»d th*» s few month. ] was thrown into the war bv s president that kept us 0Jt ¿2 elections. The term of the preaent board expiree at the end of thia month, the new board'a term beginning September lat No doubt you read In Prosveta the notice to lodgea and federations to nominate members for this bosrd. A considerable number of nominations have been made. I will submit the names when we come to elections. I will aleo aubmit a new plan I have prepared for reorganisstion of the Athletic beard and the districts which shall be represented. This will bring about more direct responsibility snd closer cooperstlon between the Athletic board snd the Executive committee, which should produce greater activity and more constructive results from this undertaking. The question of our Canadian members will again be brought before this meeting, that is, shall the special sick benefit assessment be revoked in some provinces. The members in Ontario claim that they are not csusiag sny deficit in the sick benefit fund, and they demand exemption from the special assessment. As the Supreme board levied the special assessment for our members in Csnada, it Is proper thst this board decides on the question whether the Ontario members shall be exempt. This will be reported in grester detail when the matter ^omea up for discussion. This yesr we hsve had conaiderable expense with redecorstion and repaira to our building. The paint work on both interior and exterior was in bad condition and had to be renewed. This was done most economicslly in compsrison to whst wss spent for such work in the psst. There hsve been no important changes recently in the official organ and our publications. We issued a special jubilee number to commemorate our pftth anniversary. Report of Vice-Preeident I have no special report, except thia, that as much as possible I hsve psrticipsted in this year's Nth anniversary campaign. In addition to many local affaire, I attended five large celebrations which took place in Pennsylvania in honor of the S»th S.'.ni-verssry of our Society, that Is, In the Interest of furthering the csmpslgn. Among ths Urge affairs were those of Lodge 6 of Sygsn, Pa., snd Lodge 8 of Johnstown, both celebrating their own as well as the Society's 36th anniversaries. There was vsry good response snd general sstisfsctlon with this progrsm. Judging by the attendance at all the affairs, the SNPJ has a very fine reputation in Penneylvania. I do not know what results lodges in other states are showing, or what succeas they are having In enrolling new members, but if It is snythlng like our results in Pennsylvania, the Society may be assured of its standing and progreee. Credit must be gives fliut to all our young members. With their staietic activities they have drawn Into our circle not only our Slovene youth, but the youth of other notional-Itles, to whom the SNPJ is no longer an unknown organlsstion. There is m strong sentiment In fevor of consoli-detion among members of our fmtamels, particularly of thoee related In ideals and principles. In Penn-sylvan ia, In the mining centers, there are many communities which have their own odge hells in which meetings, danc~ and other aftttai are he* These are attended moetly by people who are mem-hers of vsrioua organisations. it would be far better to have one bigU^e»»^ than three or four small competing ones, with tne edded expense bunion which falls on the member. o(i«hIaiB convinced that coneolldationw II eome Tbout in due time, particularly K .ndiv^ amb^ tions will not crop up to retard K. Report of the Editor of the Society^s Publication» On the occasion of the thirty-fifth anniversary of our Society we issued a special 20-page anniversary issue on April 6 of tlhis year. Wa endeavored all within our power to make this number an outetanding Issue among Slovana publications both so to con tent and Jorm. The favorable response both in this country and abroad attests to our success. This was the only extra work in our department during the first six months. The present day presents unusual and confused situations for which wo can assume no responsibility. The outcroppings of this unsettled state of affairs find expression In the various polemics from time to time in the Prosveta. I have tried to avoid these as much as possible, but there come times whan It is necessary to Intervene, especially at the present when various stupid attacks have been made upon the Supreme Board members of our Society. If this state of affaire continues, It will be necessary, In my opinion, to procecd more aggressively towards the responeible individuals who are members of our Society and who persist with malicious attacks without regard for the by-laws of our organ isation. The sum of one hundred dollars was paid during the first six months to participanto of the Our School contest of the Mladinski (Ust. This was distributed smong 29 members in various locslities One hundred dollars will again be given to the members at the end of thie year. This is the amount appropriated at tha Supreme Board meeting of Au gust 28, snd It !o my suggestion that this sum be sllowed for the following year a loo. The contests for the sum of 6800.00 have proved an excellent mcsns of sgitation for our Society and creating intereet tor the Juvenile Circle«. Today the response in all forms of contributions to the Mladinski Liat is greater than over before. There ie no special report concerning the routine work of tha editorial department. The assistant editors haw cooperated willingly and the work proceed« smoothly. IVAN MOLWC . Report accepted. In it I mentioned seversl importance which in my opinion would interesting and beneficial in securing new for our organisation. Lately, I have been very busy with preii in oonnection with the SNPJ Day celebrsti« will be held in La Salle. In fact, 1 hsve for the last six months with the rest of tU Day committee atriving to make the event and material success. The progres« preparations thus far is remarkable and 11 celebration will greatly enhance the ad vane our organization in our vicinity. Our | members will be bolstered considerably thru event In regard to our jubilee campaign which conducted in commemoration of our Society anniversary, I believe the younger, element the power behind the wheel to make the cess. I believe that the fact that we hav the younger members athletics hss crested er inter eat among them in our organization, believe that the 1987 convention made a wi by giving the younger generation a portion ] ognition in all its fields, and the results hai been proven in last year's juvenile csmpsignl ally in Pennsylvania for both departments.' It is nccssaary to continue this practice, the younger member» interested in the org and to make them realise that it is their work for it Also, it is necessary to continue I the younger members for lesdsrship; it scry that they go out and explain th advantages our orgsnizstion offer« to its In regard to any work not directly tonne my assignment on the Athletic bosrd, I official instructions. During the paat few years there have been many change« made in medioal oclenco, especially along operative technique and procedure, and alao la the type of anesthesia, which may be local or general. According to our by-lawa, In auction 88, we allow $75.00 for an operation which necessitates cutting the abdominal wall. The old technique or method of operation involving the female tuboa and ahort* •fling of ligaments waa done by cutting through the abdominal wall, but many phyeieians to-day accomplish tho sauie reaulte by operating through the vagins, which eliminatea the neooaaity of out. ting into the abdomen. While technically under our by-laws tho member cannot be paid $75.00 for the latter operation, atill both of the above méthode are considered a major operation, and should bo paid aa ouch. Another difficulty which I wlah to oall to your attention la the fact ttet in operating for hemorr ho ids (piles) or variooee veina, physloèans of today uao a local aneatheak for tho reaeon that the patient may bo a poor eurgioal risk beoauae of hia ago or other phyaieal ailment«. WPA Buying Big Employment Aid Industrial mobilisation accomplished by the WPA during the four years ending June 30, 1939, haa accomplished many things which would have been impoasi-ble without the activity of some such agency. The Federal funds expended amounted to about $469,000,000. These total altogether about $1,700,000,00Q, spent by Federal funds and local sponsors' funds during the four years on WPA work projects. Stone, clay and glass products accounted for the major portion amounting to a total of $878,-400,000. Iron and steel products took about $196,000,000. Lumber and its products called for $118,000,000. Paving and other bituminous mixtures used $90,-000,000 worth. Textilee accounted for over $70,000,006.
