Videli so zvezdo. Morda so jo videli tudi drugi ljudje, a jim ni nič povedala. Oni pa so v njej spoznali Gospodovo znamenje. V vsem, kar so doživljali, so videli božji poziv, ker so imeli bister pogled in odprto srce. Vse stvari so jim bile kažipot k Bogu. Ob sodelovanju vseh in vsakega smo doživeli lep praznični večer. s Sunday's Readings I Epiphany of the Lord First Reading Isaiah 60:1-6 The prophet sees the day dawning when the glory of the Lord will be in Jerusalem. Second Reading Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6 Paul recalls the revelation he received about God's love for all people. Gospel Matthew 2:1-12 Wise men come from the east to disturb one king and to worship another. Illustration King's College Chapel, in Cambridge, England, is the scene, on Christmas Eve every year, of a Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. This service was first celebrated there in 1918, just after the close of the Great War. The Dean of the college, Eric Milner-White, had been an army chaplain during the terrible slaughter in the trenches. He came home with a clear conviction that church worship needed to be livened up, to bring home to people the message of Christ. The service he arranged, in reading and song, tells the story of humankind's journey from the loss of paradise, and the promise of a Messiah, to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. The human story of our creation, our wanderings and our rescue is vividly told in the alternating lessons and carols. The service begins with the single voice of a boy chorister, singing "Once in Royal David's City". It ends with the massed voices of choir and congregation joining the angels to celebrate the "newborn king". On the east wall of the chapel, behind the altar, there hangs a great painting by Peter Paul Rubens. It is The Adoration of the Magi. Three travelers from the east have journeyed far to look for the "infant king of the Jews". The Christmas story, as told by Matthew, gives us this great feast that we celebrate today - the Epiphany, that is, the revealing of Christ to the peoples of the whole world. Gospel Teaching In St Matthew's story we meet the powerful political figure of King Herod. This man displays all the force and fallibility of any human leader. Once in power, his main objective seems to be to stay in power. And power that could be used to help humankind can easily become corrupted into a force for destroying humankind. Herod's wrongdoing has certainly made him so self-obsessed that he even fears the birth of a child as some kind of threat to his own throne. In Jerusalem, Herod's advisors, the religious and political elite, gather to discuss the political situation. These people are experts on how to manage things, so as not to rock the boat. They seem to know what they are talking about. They know where the Messiah will be born. But they don't seem to be very interested in when, as long as it does not upset their routines of control. These people enjoy their position and their work, but they are not interested in the wider world. The travelers, however, are very interested in the wider world. They are seekers after wisdom. They look for the meaning of things. They do not settle down in the comfort of the here and now. Their life is a journey, and they seek answers to life's great questions. When they find a "lowly cattle shed", they fall on their knees in homage to a child. All their searching and all their studying has brought them to this place, and to this newborn king. Application Today's feast invites us to join the Magi, and to become wise travelers through this world. It is a great temptation, in our lives, to become like Herod, little demagogues in our own world, ruling our lives according to our own desires. We can also be tempted to become political and religious experts, like Herod's advisors, putting the world to rights according to our own theories of who's right and who's wrong, and never getting beyond argument. Alternatively, we can go on the journey, like the wise men of old, and look for the child, and adore when we find him. When we accept this challenge, then, for as long as we are on this Earth, we are on the journey. St Peter, who spent many a day in the Lord's company, was never finished with learning. There is always so much to discover. "The truth I have now come to realize," Peter said on one famous occasion, "is that God does not have favorites, but that anybody of any nationality who fears God and does what is right is acceptable to him." Another great disciple, Blessed John Henry Newman, the English convert and cardinal, in an Anglican sermon for the Epiphany in 1839, said, "When men understand what each other mean, they see, for the most part, that controversy is either superfluous or hopeless." Newman, who was much vilified in his day, now stands as a great hope for Christian unity in Britain. This is the challenge of today's feast - that we go out and embrace the world. clarification on postures at mass We remind all pastors that, in accord with the norms for Canada in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, in Hamilton Diocese the postures for the Eucharistic Prayer and the Communion Rite are as follows.: * All kneel following the Sanctus and remain kneeling until the conclusion of the doxology and Amen. All kneel again following the singing of the Lamb of God and remain kneeling until the priest invites them to stand for the Prayer after Communion. Presentation of the Gifts: The priest invites all to pray, saying: Pray brothers and sisters that your sacrifice and mine ... All stand and then respond with the words: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands... The assembly will no longer wait to stand until after they have made their response. The Canadian edition of the General Instruction states that the approved gesture for the sign of peace is a handshake or a bow. The Instruction makes no mention of any words being exchanged at this moment. The change related to approaching Communion. As each person approaches the minister to receive Communion he or she is asked to make a simple bow of the head. This is a sign of reverence in immediate preparation for the act of receiving Communion, which, in Canada, is to be received standing. This gesture is made only once before receiving Communion. It is not repeated again when receiving Communion from the chalice. Other personal expressions of piety or devotion, such as profound bows or genuflections are not appropriate. A common gesture of reverence is desirable to foster the unity of faith which Communion expresses. Obvestila - Announcements pevski zbor Ta teden imajo pevci malo ( počitnic od vaj.
