Katera pot vodi v nebesa?
Stara zgodba pripoveduje o dveh menihih, ki sta brala v še bolj starih knjigah, da je nekje kraj, kjer se nebesa stikajo z zemljo. Sklenila sta, da bosta tisti kraj poiskala. Odpravila sta se na pot. Prehodila sta sto dolin, se povzpela čez sto gora, prebredla sto rek in premagala tisoč nevarnosti. Do skrajnosti utrujena in že skoraj obupana sta končno le zagledala pred seboj vrata, na katerih je pisalo: Tu se nebesa stikajo z zemljo. Polna napetega pričakovanja sta s tresočo roko pritisnila na kljuko in vstopila. Kje sta se znašla? Vsak v svoji celici.
Nauk zgodbe je jasen. Če hočeš priti v nebesa, \ se ni treba odpraviti na dolgo in nevarno pot. Ostani, kjer si, bodi, kar si, stori, kar je treba. Izpolni, kar tisti trenutek terja od tebe dolžnost, kar ti nalaga vest, kar pričakujejo od tebe ljudje, kar ti narekujejo okoliščine in kar spoznaš, daje božja volja.
Tako je delal Jezus. Vrata, kjer sta se zanj stikala nebesa in zemlja, so bila prav tam, kjer je tisti trenutek izpolnjeval Očetovo voljo. Ta mu je bila tako sveta, da jo je imenoval kar jed. »Moja jed je, da izvršujem voljo svojega Očeta.« Izpolnjeval jo je zvesto, dobro, od ure do ure, vseh triintrideset let. To seveda ni bilo vedno lahko. Človeška narava v njem se je upirala in prosila, naj bi šel kelih mimo nje. Toda on se ni upiral in tudi izbiral ni. Vse je sprejel nase. Praznik vnebohoda je bil vrhunec in sklep, ki je moral na koncu vsega priti. Bil je vesela vrnitev domov po dobro opravljeni nalogi. Ob prihodu v nebesa je mogel veselo vzklikniti: Oče, dopolnjeno je!
Praznik prvega svetega obhajila smo praznovali 29. maja med slovensko sveto mašo. Zunaj pri kipu Marije Pomočnice so deklice položile šopke, fantje pa sveče pred kip Marije. Vsi smo se Mariji posvetili in nadaljevali praznovanje v cerkvi. Prvoobhajanci so sodelovali s prošnjami, prinašanjem darov, zahvalami po obhajilu. Letošnji prvoobhajanci so naslednji: Damian in Sebastian Erzar, Mark Kezman, Ariana Kobetič, Nikola Lukežič, Marcus Miklavčič, Marcela Milosavljevič, Tomas Mramor, David Nardin, Kassandra Pavlič, Olivia Scarcelli, Mark Škerl. Hvala vsem za sodelovanje in pomoč.
Članice Katoliške ženske zveze so imele škofijsko letno srečanje od petka, 27. maja do nedelje 29. maja. Osrednja misel konvencije je bila: »Z ljubeznijo združevati vero in pravičnost«. Zaključno sveto mašo je v katedrali vodil škof Tonnos, potem pa je sledilo še kosilo in zaključna poročila v hotelu Sheraton. Na zaključnem dnevu so bile tudi štiri naše članice.
Škof v pokoju, Anthony Tonnos je 27. maja praznoval svoj zlati mašniški jubilej. V ponedeljek, 30. maja smo se duhovniki in verniki zbrali v katedrali in skupaj s škofom praznovali njegov ljubilej. Po končani sveti daritvi smo se duhovniki zbrali še na skupnem praznovanju v dvorani pod cerkvijo. Škof Tonnos je pri homiliji poudaril predvsem zgled blaženega papeža Janeza Pavla II.
Članice Girls Cluba so se v petek zvečer zbrale k svojemu rednemu srečanju. V letošnjem letu so poleg drugih aktivnosti narisale svoj simbol, ki ga bodo uporabljale pri srečanjih. Ustvarjalnost, nove ideje so kot gonilna sila, ki mlade združujejo, in jim pomagajo pri zorenju. Hvala tudi Marianne, Heidy in drugim, ki pomagajo pri vodstvu skupine.
The Ascension of the Lord
First Reading Acts 1:1-11
Jesus returns to the Father after promising to give his Spirit to the disciples to help them in being his witnesses.
Second Reading Ephesians 1:17-23 Paul prays for enlightenment and wisdom for the disciples of Christ, who is the head of his body, the Church.
Gospel Matthew 28:16-20
On the mountain, the disciples worship Christ, who commands them to bring others to faith in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

"Parting is such sweet sorrow," as Juliet said to her beloved Romeo. Sweet, because she knew she would see him again, and because their new love was deepened by the feelings that parting engendered. Sorrow, because of the feelings of loss and loneliness while parted from the beloved - such emotions will be particularly intense if the loved one is going off to face danger, or may never return. There are probably more songs and poems about the loss of love than about almost anything else. In the lyrics of the popular song "If You Go Away", by Jacques Brel, the singer puts it to his beloved that if she goes, she might as well take the sun away - the sense of the loss in parting is so acute, so painful.
Today's feast celebrates something that both is and is not a parting. Like many of the major events in the Gospel story, it contains a paradox. The ascension is a parting of the risen Jesus from the disciples on one level, the physical, so as to
enable him to be present to them, and to all of us, in a new and truly awesome way.
He parts from them in the only way that such a cosmically significant event could be described, going "up". There are only three directions to go -up, down, or sideways. Downwards would be hardly appropriate and sidewards would sound like he had just moved to another part of Palestine.
Gospel Teaching
Instead, Jesus was going somewhere that can only be written of symbolically - first with the use of the image of the mountain, where so many divine encounters happened, such as when Moses received the Ten Commandments. The cloud that hid Jesus from sight is to remind us of the prophetic vision of Daniel: "I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, one like a son of man." Jesus is that Son of Man, and, having accomplished his mission, he now goes to sit at God's right hand.
The language of the incarnation was of descending, so now to complete the cycle of love we have an ascending. The language of being higher than others indicates success: think of all the ways of saying that - rising above, being head and shoulders above the rest, coming out on top, and so on. So in one way Jesus' going up can signal his triumph over death and the powers of this world. They are "under his feet", beaten down, conquered. Jesus goes up from the world - a world that cannot trap him - but at the same time he is not distant from it, but is now able to be, as God always has been, right at the heart of it. As Nicholas

Application
The disciples could not dwell on the parting from their friend and master. They had to take up their daily lives again - until Pentecost, when their lives would be turned around. No longer near the body of Christ, they would become the body of Christ, as we are. Like them, we have the promise that where Christ is now, we will one day follow.
While the physical Jesus could reach only the people who could get near him, now, through the power of the Spirit which he is to send, he is to be available, with his loving forgiveness, to the whole world. But that is not to be accomplished without us - his friends and disciples - to testify to his identity and to all that he has done for us.
It's a mistake to think that the command of Jesus to be his witnesses throughout the world applies just to the apostles and to those who have followed them through the ages - the bishops, the clergy, those we see as "professionals" in the field of mission. It applies to us all. We are the Church, the body of Christ; and as members of this body we all have our own graced way of fulfilling this command. Christ calls us to make disciples, to bring people to faith, and to walk with them on their baptismal journey.

11:00 AM bo sv. maša s procesijo sv. Rešnjega Telesa in krvi po maši. Vabljene narodne noše in deklice v belem, da bodo potresale cvetje. Ob 12:30 kosilo in ob 2:00 PM začetek kulturnega programa.
V župnijski cerkvi 26. junija NE bo slovenske sv. maše ob 9:30. Sv. maša bo samo ob 11:00 AM v angleškem jeziku.

BARAGOVI DNEVI: 24-26 SEPTEMBER
Počitnice se bližajo, vsak si že dela načrte za naprej. Da ne bi pozabili tudi letos imamo namen udeležiti se Baragovih dni. Tisti, ki ste bili lani tam, že veste, da gremo malo bližje kot lansko leto in sicer v Harbor Springs Petoskey Area. Kot običajno v soboto bo slovenska maša, v nedeljo pa angleška. Hotel smo že rezervirali, da ne bi zadnjo minute ostali brez, prav tako avtobus, sedaj potrebuje-mo vaše prijave.

GARAGE SALE je lepo potekel. Učitelji slovenske šole bi se radi zahvalili vsem staršem, ki so pomagali ta dan in v petek zvečer. Istočasno se zahvaljujemo vsem faranom, ki so darovali stvari za prodajo. Še enkrat prav lepa hvala vsem za pomoč pri opravljeni akciji za pridobitev finančnih sredstev!

2. junija 2011 je v Kranju v Sloveniji umrl MARJAN VEHOVEC, brat naše faranke Slave Gomboša. Pokojni je bil dalj časa bolan. Star je bil 73 let. V petek zvečer smo za pokoj njegove duše darovali sveto mašo. Pogreb pokojnega je bil 4. junija v domačem kraju. Iskreno sožalje Slavi in sorodnikom, pokojnemu pa večni mir in pokoj.

Že lansko leto so bili za enega od vikendov tukaj predstavniki, ki prodajajo izdelke iz svete dežele. Tudi letos bodo v soboto 11. in nedeljo 12. julija v atriju cerkve razstavili izdelke in jih boste lahko tudi kupili.

V soboto, 4. junija nas je obiskal državni sekretar v Uradu za Slovence po svetu in zamejstvu dr. Boris Jesih. Z njim je bila še
svetovalka Tina Romih, veleposlanik gospod Tomaž Kunstelj in častni generalni konzul g. Jože Slobodnik. Z naše strani pa so bili nekateri člani župnijskega pastoralnega sveta in učiteljice Slovenske šole. Ogledali smo si cerkev, dvorani, narodne noše, šolske prostore in Villo Slovenio in jim ob tem še predstavili kratko zgodovino, delovanje društev in organizacij. Na koncu pa smo se usedli še ob dobrem delovnem kosilu in nadaljevali pogovore in izmenjave.
