Seja brldgeportske federacija Windsor Hoighta, W. Vs. Frank Kolenc. predsednik. Poročilo s seje elevelandake federacije Cleveland. — Predsednik br. Mladi so nje plačujejo. Poznic, Angela Susman in Antonia Pečam. - mladinaksm oddelku in drugem Kemmerer. Wyo. On priporoča "20 year endowment" iz lastnih izkušenj in sodi pravilno za jednoto in članstvo, ker gleda v bodočnost. Ni bilo dolgo, ko so ga razni agentje pričeli nagovarjati, naj tiste dolarje investira v neko podjetje. ENGLISH SECTION Fifteenth Annivertary of SN P J English Speaking Lodgu PAGE SIX For Members of Slovene National Benefit Society and American Slovenes WEDNESDAY, MARCH Importance of Our Juvenile Circles . Realizing, a« we should, that our Juvenile Circles are now one of the main features of the SNPJ lodge system, it is vitally important that we inject enough life into this, our newest institution. What is the relation of our Juvenile Circles to the Society? Do we fully realize their importance? Are we doing our duty in helping to organize, maintain, and expand the work of these units? No one can say with justification that our Circles are not vital pillars of the SNPJ. There is no sound argument against their existence. On the contrary, every argument sutetantiates the fact that they have a very prominent place in our fraternalism. The relation of the Circles to our Society has been manifested repeatedly in a number of instances. Most of our active lodges either separately or jointly with one or more lodges sponsor circle activities, and in all cases it has been always demonstrated that the ties between the lodge and circle have become genuinely strong; that the youngsters are eager and willing to cooperate; that the main requirement of a lodge is to furnish capable leadership; that the results have always been in direct proportion to the efforts expended. We can nay that those lodges which have tried and succeeded in forming a circle have fully grasped the importance of these units. Not only do the juveniles learn the true meaning of our Society's mission, but also they actively participate in the many lodge (aponsored programs, thereby making such events a living thing. On the other hand, we can also say that we are not yet doing our full duty in forming circles if we consider the number of our lodges operating within the jurisdiction of the SNPJ. The 80-odd circles as against more than 700 lodges prove this. To be sure, the work connected with this type of work is not easy; after all, what is easy that is of any value? An example of genuine interest in circle work is furnished in this issue of Prosveta by Bro. Frank Rezek, manager of Circle 7, of Girard, 0., whose inspiring item coupled with his effort proves our contention. Another such example !b shown in the work done by Sister Olga M. Knapich, manager of Circle 29, Detroit, Mich., and former active circle worker in Kansas. With the aid of several other members she succeeded in forming a strong circle in Detroit soon after her arrival there. There are still other circle workers whose performance has been noteworthy. We find them in Milwaukee, Wau-kegan, Colorado, Cleveland, Chicago, and in various Pennsylvania communities and other states. Yes, even up in Sheldon, Wisconsin, where SNPJ lodge 273 has 67 adult and 62 juvenile members, there is a fine prospect of forming a strong circle! Incidentally, this lodge will mark its 26th anniversary in June. Why not celebrate with a new Juvenile Circle! Since we all agree that our circles could play a vital role in the SNPJ, we must be alert enough to translate this idea into actuality. Let us do this now, during our Jubilee Campaign, which will greatly help in bringing the drive to a satisfactory conclusion. So. Chicago's Column SNPJ FILMS IN LA SALLE, ILL OGLESBY. ILL.—At a special meeting of the Illinois.Valley Federation of SNPJ Lodges, February 19, at the Slovene Dom in La Salle, it was decided to show the original SNPJ films as well as those of Jugo-■lavia, Sunday, March 9. at the Slovene Home in La Salle at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. All necesaary arrangements were made by Bro. Fred Malgai, member of the Supreme Bosrd, to show these films which have never been shown before in this locality. The filma will be shown by Bro. J. Zupan, 'member of the Supreme Bosrd, who will also interpret them to us. There is no doubt but thst this will be a rare occasion to view some of the moat beautiful spots of Slovenia and other parts of Jugoslavia. The scenery is indeed beautiful, and judging from the book I have read, "A Wayfarer in Jugo-slavia", we will have an opportunity to see this beauty right here in our Dom on the acreen. Also, among the views will be the scenes of the 1939 SNPJ Day which took place here in La Salle. After the »how, a social will be held in the lower hall. Federation Report At the yearly meeting of the Federation held in De Pue on Jan. 10, the following officers were elected:' Vince Omahen, president (Lodge 69, De Pue); Leo Zevnik, vice president (Lodge 98, La Salle); John Klansek, sec'y-treasurer (Lodge 750, Oglesby). Trustees: Louis Machek (De Pue lodge 792), Frank Gregorcich Jr. (La Salle lodge 327), John Brejc (La Salle lodge 573). The meetings are to be held quarterly, unless a special meeting is to be held, in which caae the Secretary ahall aend carda to all Federation officers, notifying them aa to the date, place and time of the meeting. The regular meetings are to be alternated between La Salle and De Pue. Malgai and Klanaek gave a detailed report of the Christmas party given by the Federation and Soča for the SNPJ juveniles of this area: The Federation will continue payment of $1 for every new adult member and 00c for each new juvenile member who has paid three monthly assessments. All SNPJ lodge secretaries in this locality are adviaed to act accordingly. If you have had any new members since August 1940 who have paid three months dues, please adviae me and I'll send you the check covering these new members. This award, of course, got« to the person securing the new members. JOHN KLANSEK, Sec'y III. Valley Federation. So CH1CAOO. Mrs MARY WOLFE. Sec'y. Meeting of SNPJ Lodge 3 Sunday, March 9 Spirit-o-Grams By Whoosil ST. LOUIS. MO —Much Is being said and done by various lodges concerning members and increasing membership. We would like to urge the officers of Slovene speaking lodges located in towns near St. Louis to advise members, especially the young folks to transfer to an English speaking lodge as soon as they come to the city. Many young members are thus lost to the Society, too often the case is that they keep up their membership for a few months and then forget about it. Whereas, had they transferred to an English speaking lodge in whieh they could have participated actively, chances are 9 to 1 that they would have remained members and not only that, but probably would have brought their friends into the organization. Plfolt of Lodge 566 claims he doesn't know whether to smile, grin, or laugh at th* resolution I had published a few weeks sgo in regard to boycotting the 2nd Eastern Invitational Bowling Tournament being held March 8-9. You and all the rest of us members sre decidedly in debt to sny and sll Slovenes who origin-slly built the foundation to the present SNPJ structure. The originators regardless of a few miles distance slwsys made certain to help each other before they considered any other obstacle or situation. . The SNPJ is primarily indebted to any and sll Slovene Homes throughout this country for it* presents status. They made it possible for lodges to orgsnize by giving^ithem the opportunity to hold meetings in its vsrious rooms, congregate in a body in its club rooms, and finally to be able to hold parties snd dsnces in its hsllg. Without fully pstroniz-ing sll Slovene Homes, how can we continue our successful pace? In the poeond plaee, Bro. Plfolt insists that because the bowling alleys on Waterloo Road are on a good financial basis they don't require the assitsance of the SNPJ members. According to his stste-ment the slleys therefore don't need sny more business. Well, he cer-tsinly hss sound ressoning, doesn't he? He klso is of the opinion that the Club room will also be the loser in this respect. But he neglects to mention thst the owners of the Omsrlo slleys will maae quite a few dollars from our Slovenes. I'm in fsvor of supporting sny and all nstionslities AFTER our own Slovene sources sre occupied. Why doesn't he mention that the Ontario slleys are owned by an Italian and a Jew I That's one of the foremost reasons why I object so strenuously sgainst the committee's verdict Bro. Plfolt also writes tqr my. information that the dance for this affair will be held at the Slovene owned hall on E. 65 and St Clair. I never as yet hsve mentioned the possibility of having this dsnce held on Waterloo Road. I always did fsvor St. Clair for such a large dance. I also realize that it isn't possible at the present to hsve the tournament changed to some other alleys. But I as a member have the fraternal right to voice my opinion, particularly where such poor reasoning is applied. I slso read where our friend Bro. John Lokar is supposedly responsible for furnishing the nucleus to my resolution—that is sccording to Bro. Plfolt. At the rate Bro. Pifolt is hitting his bstting average will total a big 0. Bro. Lokar didn't even sign my petition because he didn't know thst I, or for that matter anyone else, was circulating such s petition. If you'll look s little closer, Bro. Pifolt, you'll realize thst the nsme John Loksr on my petition didn't belong to Lodge 614, $o obviously it couldn't hsve been the John Loktir you're referring to. Furthermore, msy I mention that the John Loksr who Bro. Pifolt is sttempting to condemn has accomplished more for the Slovenes snd the Slovene Homes than he or any other invidual has. Bro, Lokar of ths Stragglers is indeed an asset to sny organization. The President and Vice-President of lodge Stragglers wholehesrtedly agree to oppose my resolution. Imagine them turning against the Hsll snd lodge who they represent The Slovene Hall on Waterloo is responsible for the Stragglers existence. Without this building they. Bro Slla snd Bro. "Flashes" report on numbers of members from the Pioneer lodge in each class of SNPJ insurance stimulated a thought that we believe would prove successful in a membership campaign. It concerns the matter of paying awards to solicitors for amount of insurance sold and the class which . the new member chooses to be in. It sppeSrs to the writer that the more a member is required to pay each month, the greater responsibility that member is apt to assume in the lodge and society. That's encouraging news, for it points thst we're continuing In the proper direction. But the details of the entire meeting are anxiously swsited. | Another interesting, but not too encouraging, report In that summary was the opinion of the ms* jority members favoring more st* tention to our own problems and less to world polities. Apparently no action wss taken as to the limitations of Prosvete's policy, but it is obvious thst certain limitations are implied. It remsins true thst there is s sore need in our orgsnizstion for training our membership for in creased productivity, snd Prosveta should be utilized for that purpose. According to the décision of the Supreme' Board, our next convention will start September 15, and wiU be held in a Pittsburgh hotel. Help yourself to a good time by attending the Eagles meeting and social on Monday, March 10. We do not understand the seemingly evident retreat from our SNPJ buildings, neighborhoods and communities. Why is it that with the Waterloo Recreational Alleys obviously resdily obtainable, the 2nd Eastern Invitationsl Bowling Tournsment is being transplanted to the Omsrlo alleys on Superior St.? Then, too, the "serving of meals" seems to hsve favored a decision to establish the convention in downtown Pittsburgh rather than the Butler St. Home, If we who call ourselves SNPJers do not solidly support our own investments, who can we expect to do the job for us?
