CONTRIBUTION OF THE CENTRAL TECHNICAL LIBRARY OF THE EDVARD K a r d e l j u n iv e r s it y o f l j u b l j a n a t o t h e UNIVERSAL AVAILABILITY OF SERIALS M ara Šlajpah, Lepša Štunt} Edvard Kardelj University, The Central Technical Library Ljubljana, Yugoslavia Written on the 40th anniversary of the Central Tecnical Library (CTL), the paper gives a survey of the development of the union catalogue of scientific and technical serials at CTL in the last three decades. It was started in 1957 in classical card form, computerized and issued in a printed version in 1975 (two editions) while in 1984 the supplement in microfiche (COM) was published. The Union Catalogue of serials serves as a basis for the decentralized library network in Slovenia, linking both university technology and special libraries as well as for co-ordinated acquisition of serials and their trans­ mission to library users. Further, the paper points out how the publication of the first com ­ puterized union catalogue of scientific and technical serials affected the universal availability of publications in Yugoslavia.
