»Ti si moj ljubljeni Sin, nad teboj imam veselje.«
Začetek drugega dela Izaija je v današnji liturgiji zato, ker vsebuje veličastno teofanijo, podobno kakor pri Jezusovem krstu. Je razodetje Boga rešitelja in osvoboditelja: »Glejte, vaš Bog! Glejte, Gospod prihaja z močjo!« . Prerok je tudi glasnik, podoben Krstniku, katerega naloga je vabiti na Gospodovo pot in jo pripravljati. Prerokova misel gre k ravni in premočrtni poti, ki se je raztezala pred starimi svetišči. Nanjo se napoti Gospod, ki gre pred svojim ljudstvom; on je veliki pastir, ki hoče podpirati, zbirati in objemati svojo čredo, da ne bi padla v roke najemnikov.
Podobi Gospoda, pastirja in odrešenika, približajmo slovesno razodetje Kristusa, Božjega Sina, na bregovih Jordana. Danes nam to v treh prizorih predstavlja Luka. V prvem prevladuje glas Janeza Krstnika, ki vrednoti in točno določa kvaliteto krščanskega krsta v primerjavi z vsemi spokornimi obredi stare zaveze in vseh religij. Jezusov krst je v Svetem Duhu in ognju. Tako sta utemeljena dva bistvena vidika krščanskega zakramenta, ki pa ju simbolizira tudi voda. Krst je ogenj, ki izžiga radikalno zlo človeka, in - kakor je rekel Ma-lahija - »kakor livarjev ogenj, kakor lug pralcev je voda, ki očiščuje.
Toda krščanski krst je tudi navzočnost Boga v človeku, je oživljajoči Duh, ki ustvarja novo stvar, kakor je bila prva »adamovska« stvaritev narejena z vdihnjenim Duhom v materialno stvarnost. Voda ni le izvor očiščevanja, ampak tudi rodovitnosti življenja: »Pokropim vas s čisto vodo, da boste
očiščeni ... Dam vam novo srce in novega duha denem v vašo notranjost« (Ez 36, 25-26).
Drugi prizor današnjega evangeljskega odlomka je zelo preprost: Jezusa, ki moli, krsti Janez Krstnik. Razlika med vzporednim Matejevim in Markovim besedilom na eni strani ter med Lukovim na drugi je prav v tej »molitvi«. Tukaj se začenja vsebina, ki je Luku močno pri srcu: Jezus je zanj človek molitve, predvsem v tem, kar je odločilno za njegovo poslanstvo. Jezus moli sredi prvega navdušenja množice (Lk 5, 16), pred prvo izbiro apostolov (6, 12), pred mesijansko Petrovo izjavo (9, 18), med drugo epifa-nijo v spremenitvi na gori (9, 28). Jezus podarja kakor razločujočo kristjanovo molitev »Oče« (Abba, pa ne »Oče naš« kakor Matej), moli za Petra (22, 32), moli zase v strašnem trenut-ku končne izbire (22, 41), za svoje »križarje« (23, 34) in v zadnjem trenutku svoje smrti (23, 46). Jezus sestavlja in podarja svoji skupnosti resničen in pravi katekizem o molitvi. Luka pa zbere v svojem evangeliju celo vrsto molitvenih besedil, lastnih prvi krščanski skupnosti: Magnifikat, Zaharijev hvalospev, Simeonovo molitev, pesem angelov, Jezusov slavilni spev in končno svoj »Oče«, ki je krajši in manj judovski.
Pa smo pri tretjem prizoru, pri katerem ne gre toliko za na zunaj preverljiva dejstva, ampak za notranji pečat preroške in mesijanske Jezusove posvetitve. Luka globoko in preroško razlaga »krstni« dogodek. Glavni prvini prizora sta dve: odprto nebo z božjim glasom in Sveti Duh. Nebesa se odprejo kot odgovor na Jezusovo molitev in pošljejo oznanilo o pravi resničnosti človeka-Jezusa: on je Božji Sin. V njem je torej božja navzočnost popolna, on ima v polnosti Svetega Duha, ki ga prešinja in spodbuja za njegovo poslanstvo. Jezus moli in Bog mu da Duha, to je svojo navzočnost in svoje preroško in odrešenjsko posvečenje za celotno človeštvo.

Samo Luka ima v svojem evangeliju ta Jezusov stavek: »Oče bo dal Svetega Duha tistim, ki ga prosijo« (11, 13). Zato bo - ko se bo morala uresničiti navzočnost Kristusa v času in prostoru prek njegovega telesa, ki je Cerkev - Sveti Duh prišel nad apostolsko skupnost, zbrano v dvorani zadnje večerje. Vsekakor »mi verujemo, da je Jezus Božji Sin in da je bil tudi kot človek napolnjen s Svetim Duhom že od materinega telesa. Vendar pa mora kot človek začeti svoje poslanstvo in zato je potrebna pobuda Svetega Duha.
Končno še zadnje razkritje, to je ono, ki ga kliče v spomin odlomek iz pisma Titu. Govori o »prerojenju in prenovitvi po Svetem Duhu«, ki je vir naše osvoboditve od zla. Na ta dar moramo odgovoriti z vero in življenjem.	(prim. Oznanjevalec št. 2, 2004)
NEW YEAR'S EVE 2018-2019_
As 2018 is now in our past, we welcomed 2019 in a festive fashion 'Gatsby Style'.
With many hours of planning, organization and preparation, our New Year's event included great food, great music and most importantly wonderful moments with family and friends. From start to finish, the evening was a success and fun was had by all!
It took many hands to make this event happen. The menu was changed up a little from the usual, the service was sent out in 4 courses, the décor was extravagant and eye catching, appetizers not only tasted good but was displayed wonderfully along with the splash-ingly refreshing complimentary drinks that were provided upon entry. Of course the bar staff not only looked great, but tended to everyone's requests and of course the music was played for everyone to enjoy.
To everyone who gave a helping hand to these and so many other behind the scenes aspects of our New Years event, we say thank you! To the many guests who attended our New Years festivities, we hope you had a fabulous time; to those who were unable to join us, we wish you all a wonderful, happy and healthy 2019.
COOKING SESSION
Last Saturday the kitchen was again filled with enthusiastic cooks interested in learning and eager to see how barley stew, clear soup with various dumplings and bread is made.
We were all so pleased to again have Ančka Doma lead our session as she shared quite a few great tips on making great soup.
Heidy Novak also shared a simple yet very tasty bread recipe that we just could not stop eating. We all agree that our New Year's resolution to eat a little less in 2019 would have to start after this kitchen session.
To everyone who continues to join in on our cooking sessions, thank you for your enthusiasm and to those who haven't had a chance yet to come out - we always welcome new faces. Until next time, Happy New Year on behalf of everyone who loves to cook and bake!

New birth can be both agony and ecstasy. St Paul remarks that mothers are prepared to go through the pangs of childbirth because of their delight in bringing new life into the world. They forget the pain in their excitement at their newborn child. We have to remember that St Paul was a man, and his view may have been rather idealistic. But where all goes well, and a child is safely delivered, there is a sense for both parents of having partaken in an event that verges on cosmic significance, not just for their personal lives but for the world at large.
The Russian tradition is to place the newborn child on the earth in recognition that this is mother earth, the womb from which we all emerge and to which we all in some profound way always belong. Other cultures, too, celebrate birth with a deep

awareness of how in that moment we share in the great gift of creation. All of which makes our modern Western approach more contradictory. On the one hand we retain the desire to have the children we want and whom we will love. On the other, our society often cannot deal with children who arrive unexpectedly or who do not conform to the pattern of health and intelligence we had hoped for. We would prefer to forge a world solely in our own image and likeness rather than accepting the mysterious world that has been given us in the image and likeness of its creator. We have too narrow a framework for those whom we will call "beloved".
Gospel Teaching
There had been so many prophecies and predictions of the one who was expected, the one who was to come in the Jewish tradition. What remained uncertain was what the one to come would be. There is a sense that God will come with power, as our first reading from Isaiah indicates, yet the Lord will also be like a shepherd feeding his flock, gathering lambs in his arms and holding them against his breast. The image of military might is counterbalanced by a pastoral image of tenderness and care. Again, in our psalm we are asked to reflect on the might of God, who stretches out the heavens like a tent and provides the earth and the sea with all their riches. This wealth of creation is then linked into God's intimate solicitude for us, providing us with the food we need in due season so that we may always have our fill.
All these contrary and yet complementary expectations reach their fulfilment in the person of Jesus. His public life will be the expression of how he
fulfils the hopes and promises the people have listened to all their lives. In Luke's Gospel, which we are reading this year, it is when Jesus is at prayer after his baptism that the Holy Spirit comes down upon him, sealing the calling he has received from his Father, who in turn declares the closeness of their relationship, which has three aspects: Jesus is God's own Son, and so he is the Father's beloved, and God's favour rests on him.
Application
These same three aspects lie at the heart of what happens to us at our baptism. Perhaps it was only natural that after a time the Church would begin the practice of baptising infants. This is the moment when we are aware of the God-given sharing in creation that has just taken place in the birth of each child. As we thank God for the gift of children it makes sense to link that thanksgiving with the words spoken by God the Father at the start of his Son's public life. We are all God's children, and that means first of all that we too are beloved by God.
Parents can aim to emulate that divine love in all that they strive to do in bringing up their children. It does not mean mollycoddling or spoiling them. It does mean both challenging them to fulfil their potential while caring for their nurture and growth like the shepherd with his lambs. Finally God's favour rests on both us and all our children, for we are God's children too. We sometimes lose track of this strong affirmation of God for each one of us. Just as the archangel Gabriel greeted Mary as "full of grace", so we begin and continue our lives under the support and favour of our God.

V nedeljo, 6. januarja 2019, na praznik Gospodovega razglašenja, je Bog poklical k sebi po večno plačilo našo faranko Mary Heleno Zabukovec. Pokojna je bila stara 88 let. Od nje ste se lahko poslovili v Donald V. Brown Funeral Home v četrtek, 10. januarja popoldne in zvečer, pogrebno sveto mašo smo darovali v naši cerkvi v petek, 11. januarja ob 10h dopoldne, potem pa jo pospremili k večnemu počitku na Nountview Gardens

Cemetery. Iskreno sožalje otrokom, Joe, Jenny in Franku in njihovim družinam. Pokojni Mary pa večni mir in pokoj.
V četrtek, 10. januarja 2019, je Bog poklical k sebi Julijano Gabor. Pokojna Julijana je umrla v Sloveniji, v bolnici v Murski Soboti, stara 95 let. Pogreb pokojne pa je bil v Odrancih, v petek 11. januarja. Za pokoj njene duše smo v tudi naši cerkvi darovali sveto mašo v petek popoldne.
Za njo žalujejo otroci: Marija Kerec, Štefan Gabor, Cirl Gabor, Angela Antolin, (+Elizabeta Kramar) in Milan Gabor. Iskreno sožaljem vsem žalujočim, pokojna Julijana pa naj v večnosti uživa zasluženo plačilo pri Bogu.
SVETE MAŠE_
Ker prejšnji teden Fr. Frank Kelly zaradi bolezni, v četrtek, petek in soboto ni mogel priti maševat, sem maše od četrtka in petka prestavil na ta teden.
Maše od sobote 5. januarja pa bodo prestavljene na prvo prosto soboto, t.j. 9. februarja 2019. Se orpoščam, da se ni dalo zadnji trenutek uredit, da bi kdo prišel maševat.
Danes, 13. januarja, bo pri društvu Sava sveta maša za pokojne člane društva, pa še za pokojne starše, Ludvika in Marijo Serbec in brata Slavka Serbec - daruje Zinka Mirt.
