CO OPERATION ANI) INTERDEPENDENCY THE FACHINFORMATIONSZENTRUM AND THE SCIENTIFIC LIBRARIES Klaus Lankenau The Fachinformationszentrum Karlsruhe, Eggenstein, FRG The tasks and targets of the Fachinformationszentrum Karlsruhe and its host STN International, operating with partners in the USA and Japan, are presented. As far as future development in the field of information and documentation is concerned, the thesis is put forward that increased co-operation between all the facilities of the information scene is both desirable and necessary. Co-operation and possibilities of co-operation with scientific libraries are illustrated by the example of database produc­ tion, online database use and document delivery, hereby emphasizing possible areas of future development.
